Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
Whilst the Morgan is capable of much higher speeds I doubt I would want to explore it too often.
Indeed. I remember one special day in the Highlands, chasing SpannerJuggler in his Duratec +4 up the A835 towards Ullapool. Although theoretically I had more power and less weight than him he more than made up for it in driving skill and there was no way I could catch him. My car is enormous fun in the 50-80mph bracket, but it all gets a bit runaway stagecoach in 3-figure territory. But that's fine, if I had wanted a fast car I would have bought one!
It's not the gearing it's the shape. About as slippery as a house brick.
A trad Morgan is considerably less slippery than a house brick, the CdA with the top down is horrific. Adding another gear is unlikely to help as the existing 5th gear is almost certainly an overdrive ratio anyway.
I'm finding it difficult to imagine that a 2.0l Duratec is genuinely struggling at just 80mph, I suspect you are simply not giving it enough throttle, the Durance is a great engine and will easily rev to 6k rpm. Try using 4th gear and 5k rpm.
On an intentional speed test after some mods I backed off after I hit 180 kph (112 mph checked against GPS) and still accelerating. I backed off because even on a deserted autostrada you just might find a speed camera and my license is worth more than the brief thrill of topping 200 kph in a Morgan.
PS. The above is all nonsense, it never happened and if it did I was not there and it was not my car.
I was there and it was my car🙄 On the German highway. Gambalunga Peter, finally visit us in Cologne and you can drive your Morgan without any speed trap.
Festive greetings Heinz, visited Cologne/Koln last September to stay with a friend in close by town of Pulheim . Arrived early in the morning having driven through the night to be greeted by a road closure 2 kilometres from our friends flat, due to a large cycle road race ! Officials said we had to wait for approx 6 hours or leave the car and walk . After some discussion and some friendly banter they finally allowed us to drive quickly behind the peloton ( my goodness the wind caused by a group of bikes going fault tilt was amazing ) and get to our friends place. Never been to Koln before but really surprised at how interesting it was. Didn’t realise it was such a tourist city , the Cathedral was spectacular and the Rhine area lovely. Didn’t have a lock to put on the bridge but did see the lovely 4711 building ( my mothers favourite fragrance) . Had dinner at Weinhous Die Fledermous in Pulheim, friends wanted to go but it was a bit average……. Such an easy and quick drive back to Calais. It had two Michelin stars. They gave them up because they wanted to lead a quieter life without the star stress they had successfully endured for 25 years. It has reopened with the old crew. Now as a “normal bistro” haha. The cuisine is just as good as it was when it was starred. The chef is Belgian, some people say that the best cuisine is French, but the best chefs come from Belgium.
If you prefer traditional Kölsch food, then I would recommend the Päffgen.
A brewery with its own Kölsch beer and very tasty Kölsch cuisine. It's more for a boisterous and merry evening, but unforgettable. If you are interested in music, the Päffgen is not only the most famous brewery in Cologne. There was a daughter who became a singer. Nico.
Whatever you prefer, it is highly recommended to book well in advance, especially for the Moissonnier.
I would like to add. 35 years ago, I was a student at Cologne University with little money. But at the Moissonnier, you could get the dish of the day with a glass of very good French wine for 18 German marks, today it's € 9. I used to go there once a month with friends. It had just opened. That's how times and prices change.
I only understand a little of your mentality. But often the absurdity is palpable. In the link is an abstract to a very serious scientific paper. Monty Python would have had to read this out 50 years ago and people would have laughed out loud at the frequency of the two words used. In my view, the fantastic Monty Python humor is unavoidable in your culture.
