Don't forget to put the silly grin on your face"

As an ex software tester, I wonder if these instructions are complete? E.g how do you get out of launch mode? What happens if you press brake or accelerator etc when you in the middle of a launch? How do I confirm that I'm in launch mode at the beginning of the step 'Gas to the floor' - is there an on dash indication - or do I simply tell from the fact that the car does not move away anyway? Is launch mode still possible with full lock engaged? (yes, I know, the system assumes the drive has some common sense, but .....). Just idle curiosity...

I presume launch control is canceled when you press the brake but does that then mean you have to move the accelerator quickly to the appropriate position for the speed you are doing? I'm beginning to struggle to see the point of this feature on a normal road car. But I guess these are not quite normal road cars (at least bhp/ton wise).

As an ex front line responder to equipment failure, assuming anything relative to the cause of failure can create issues and more so if digitisation is involved, which it was in most kit.. Of course the human interface is not without it`s complexities too when it comes to assessment of a failure... (-:

Did not Vicky Butler Henderson not rip the drive belts off an Aston Martin by flooring the pedal on close to hard lock...whether she might have been in Launch mode or not...???

Does the car need to have an electric auto handbrake to lock the rear wheels for launch ?

Launch control. Also known as gearbox lunch system, Use at your gearbox's peril smile

Go on do it. I am a BMW driver (X5) so can only encourage you :-)

On a more serious note about launch controls, if one is a driver who wants or needs to do this to your car, why not just buy the manual in the first place and sidestep the clutch at around 4k revs? I used to do this regularly with my Caterham in my hillclimbing days. The tyres spin up and doesn't seem to put the gearbox under too much strain, though Grahams first hand experience on the start line would probably negate this view!

As a big BMW fan......do it.... have a go......
I did it in my 440i xdrive coupe, it gave full instructions how, so I did......... I only did it once because it scared the sh1t out of me......😆 I sold the car not long after and went back to a more sensible 530d touring.....

My local taxi company owner in Bucks used to get fast cars as taxis as he employes 100 plus folk. As a regular I drove his Bentley Continental. 911 Carrera 4s etc.
He had an M5 and shredded the gearbox at Silverstone with onw too many launch controlled starts.
