Why does Mayor Khan deserve a Knighthood?? The system has gone mad.

It is in my opinion a 2 tier system.

For us plebs we get a warm glow when we see selfless folk who do charity work etc getting an MBE etc. That is level 1 & gives it a kind of justification. I approve of that even if it also helps the Royals justify living off us.

Level 2 is gongs for the boys. In the real world just doing your job doesn't equal an honour, you just get to keep your job & be taxed to hell and back. But if you are a lovie or a civil servant your get an honour. Mutley approves by the way.
The Lords is now of course level 3 jobs for the boys now the sinecures in the EU aren't there.

Agreed, the man has done nothing for London except turn it into a tax earner to offset his inability to manage his budget.

On the other hand, he's been elected Mayor 3 times now. If he was so crap at his job, surely he would have been turfed out by now?

It's not like the Tories have got much high ground to stand on when it comes to awarding their cronies.

I've got no strong opinions on the awards system, I remember my father getting quite grumpy about it when he was approached to see if he would accept an MBE, he turned it down on the basis that there were others far more deserving - the point being that awards go to people to want to have them, you don't get awarded against your will.

There must be loads of people like my old man who have done loads of good for their community but don't want have a fuss made about it. Very British.

I don’t like commenting on politics but he was our MP and I met him on a couple of occasions. I have for about 10 years thought he would at some stage become Labour leader although I I thought Andy Burnham might also……..
Some years back before being Mayor I took an eighty plus year lady to one of his surgeries to discuss a local issue and he definitely came across so poorly and did not impress at all. I certainly would not have employed him !
The opposition he has faced has also been so poor . Boris getting in also surprised me at that time but I would say London is now firmly Labour.
Nobody doing their day job should get a gong unless you do something extra extra special - ULEZ & air pollution ? , Hammersmith bridge, knife crime, Oxford St scheme, LTNs, 20mph - you decide if London is and will prosper ?

PS I look at both front benches with worry but it will be interesting to look back in 4 and a half years ( hopefully I can) .

As ever, the optics are what matters, and how come these people get awards for just doing their jobs? Badly or not........

Yes I was gobsmacked when our previous MP who was voted out last year and booed at the hustings got an even bigger trough to guzzle at.
Who can't forget Nellie the Effluent or T Coffrey. LizTruss' health minister & deputy PM who is now in the Lords.

Mind you since Blair reorganised the Lords when I think they were 300 or so we now have 820 of them. Isn't progress great.
