No need to get rid of them, just stop paying the Scottish owners to stop them turning when the grid can't take it. Monumental figures paid each year apparently....over a billion last year....all in the name of something or other unreachable concept. That's money from our taxes paid out. Doesn't include the vast gov subsidies to build them.
The myth of windmill power solving our problems goes on apace......

Don't forget that we have to keep our other generators running in case the wind drops, they actually save very little it's box ticking at it's worst.

All because a US Oil Corp has pulled out of the North Sea and strange coincidence the UK is a big purchaser of USA oil......which also begs the question why when we have our own oil reserves.

My understanding is that our North Sea oil is a higher quality than US and is sold at a higher price and used for a different purpose.

Yes all oil is not equal, Brent crude has different applications......but we are no longer issuing new licences to extract our oil reserves so will eventually become more dependant upon imported oil and lose an important UK export revenue and taxation stream

According to the National Grid contribution to power production in 2023 from renewables was

Wind power contributed 29.4% of the UK’s total electricity generation.
Biomass energy, the burning of renewable organic materials, contributed 5% to the renewable mix.
Solar power contributed 4.9% to the renewable mix
Hydropower, including tidal, contributed 1.8% to the renewable mix.

If we can sort out the National Grid this would be much higher as there are a lot of offshore sites waiting to connect.

Interesting that we didn't produce much from solar and have nowt in battery storage, considering how sunny the UK has been the last couple of days

I suspect the solar is export from homes and commercial plants.
We made 10.8kWh yesterday but exported under 2 .

We have a smart meter so I guess that data I available. How they know from dumb meters I don't know.
