Hello,

can anybody tell me how you handle with your luggage (fixed on the luggage rack) whilst you are on a ferry boat?

The cars have to be left in the bunt of the boat and passangers have to leave the car parking decks during the cruise. Do you leave your MORGAN with the luggage on the rack and hope that it is still there when you come back at the end of the voyage?

Or are there any luggage straps available with a kind of lock or similar?

Same problem when you´re on a journey (to your target destination) with the luggage on the rack and some stopovers are planned, p.ex. to visit a church.

Any suggestions or hints? What are your experiences with that topic?

I bought something similar from a camping shop at a fraction of the price, I also use it threaded through the sleeves of our flying jackets and the steering wheel if we leave them in the car.

I just strapped my peli case to the luggage rack when I toured with my 4/4 - it never occurred to me to lock the case to the rack, touring in a convertible car is an act of faith to a certain extent any way. The tea leaf frustrated by a case locked to the rack is just as likely to slash your hood either to steal something out the car or as an act of malice

A locking strap will stop the opportunist thieves. And I reckon most thievery is because it was tempting and the opportunity was there, a locking strap could certainly give one piece of mind to a degree.

I also use a cable lock. But in the specific case you mention I have never heard of thefts from cars on Ferries. Indeed from force of habit I always leave cars unlocked and keys in the ignition.

Like Brian I have never heard of thefts from ferries (the cargo bay is secured whilst at sea isnt it?)

For other places - I normally take my flexible cycle lock with me, but usually forget to apply it!
