I fitted the Sifab shallow alloy sump to my Roadster series 2 whilst not the steel version, and it certainly made clearing speed hump less challenging Good to hear; however, as SiFab is no more, that negates that as an option. True, but it was little different from what Mulfab were doing to their modified alloy sumps, so whilst the supplier may have disappeared the observation still holds true.

Yes this steel sump will be an interesting project to watch for the Roadster owners in particular, it should be a lot more forgiving than the alloy one's and Mulfab have been around quite a while now. I note that Mulfab now have their steel sumps for the Morgan Roadster for sale - has anyone fitted one and, if so, how have you found it? Good to see they are available now  Seeing some of the dinks on my Plus 8 steel sump is reassuring and wouldn't want an ally one down here on our back roads.

John, I meant in terms of possible supply. Mulfab now only advertise steel and I'm unsure if anyone else offers an aluminium sump.

I now feel fortunate that I got a Sifab sump before he moved on. The Mulfab sump looks good, and I look forward to seeing one installed.
However the bellhousing is lower than the gearbox crossmember, so it's worth spacing the engine mountings and gearbox mounting. There's around 5mm extra to be had doing that.

Does anyone remember when the factory started fitting the engines lower, I believe to meet pedestrian regs?
I'm sure my 2003 4/4 had no clearance probs. My 2014 4/4 also clouted any insect on the tarmac.
I wonder when the change occurred

As a new Roadster owner, 2005 with the 3.0 engine, can one of you gentlemen explain what you mean by "spacing the engine mountings and gearbox mountings"? I did a search and didn't come up with an answer. My car has a modified alloy sump and the low hanging side has been removed. Thanks.

Raising the engine and gearbox a small amount by undoing the two engine mounts, one by one, jacking up engine just enough to insert spacing washer(s). Ditto for gearbox mount. It will only gain you a millimetre or two though.
Regarding models grounding on gearbox cross member, some more than others, my first thought was upper/main spring length. Whilst they may all leave the factory with same unladen length, variations in quality, spring rate and sag over time would likely explain the variations in ride height.
Note the SSL RS front suspension kit gives you a choice of ride height with an increase of 20mm over the lower. Particularly beneficial to older cars still using damper blades.

I had the original Mulfab version modified alloy sump (when Simon worked there) you didn't gain a lot but the piece spliced in was plate instead of cast so more malleable & within weeks there was scraping evidence but no cracks If steel had been available at the time, it would have been my choice ps, don't forget the Mulfab name was bought for it's previous reputation and is not Peter anymore (I'm not doing down the new co, it's just so you're aware)
