Never had one, but really like the Scimitar. It was on my 'list' for a prospective daily driver along with the MGBGT, and Triumph Vitesse.

When it was time to purchase, both the Vitesse and Scimitar prices had increased too much, so it was only the GT that was affordable. It's a great all rounder, fun to drive and can still do a 'tip run', Only downside is the lack of true rear seats.

Not the fastest, but never really seen the obsession with buying cars that can do ludicrous speeds. Quick enough to make it fun, and the suspension upgrades means I don't need to slow down for the corners. Get around 30mpg which makes it viable for the commute (just!)

My old boss used to have one. A bit wallowy to drive and full of 70's-tastic brown velour but extremely practical. After Reliant ended production there was na outfit called Middlebridge Garage that built a few more, they were truly excellent, really well built. I almost bought one some years ago.

There are 2 cars that would fit the bill of being my only car, either a 2 seater or a 4 seater both have soft tops. They would allow you to do the continental tours, could be used as the daily hack yet wouldn't look out of place if you turned up in them at the Cafe de Paris, in Monte Carlo. For relatively sensible money it would be:-

The 2 seater would be a Mercedes SL250 Pagoda, the 250 still had the better suspension setup of the 230, but more torque than the 230 and less of a cruiser the 280 became.. If money no object then the late 50's Mercedes SL300 soft top. Or

The 4 seater would be any straight six or V8 any of larger engined 4 seater Mercedes Cabriolet from the late 60's upto the W124 in 1996/7.

Air conditioning and automatic would be de rigor as Mercedes ride better as auto's,

I've always wanted to be a 'one watch' person - but can't stop buying them... same with cars. I recently bought a 911 which is regarded by many as the perfect everyday car - maybe it is. However my Range Rover (now sold) would be hard to beat and might just be the perfect car. This assumes that petrol might come down in price.

At the moment, my answer to this conundrum has to be my current Discovery 5. It will carry 11 bales of shavings with the seats folded, the suspension lowers so that 93 year old Mum can get in and out, it will cruise all day on the motorway and doesn't prove tiring to drive. And it tows the horses. What more could I want from a car if I could only have one? Of course, I would still hanker after a Morgan for fun.

Boring and predictable it may be......but.......... it has to be a 911........!
It is the perfect allrounder, they are out there to suit most budgets, just be prepared never to be let out of junctions.......😁

Which one to get would be the problem........
If it's a modern car, a 991.2 or, now they're dropping in price, a 992, might just about become do-able.
No one needs a GT3, GT3 Rs, GT2 etc etc, even a turbo is willy waving.......
A standard carrera 2 is close to perfect, it's the one the engineers build, everything else, so they say, is just marketing. (and willy waving)

With a bigger budget, a 2.7 RS touring would be the one. It'd get you in to any event and it'd get you a front row parking spot outside the casino in Monte Carlo........

I'm not sure I'd get a singer if there were no budgetary constraints, I'd probably go to Tuthill's and get them to build the perfect 911..........

Very good question, and a majorly different one to answer - I guess if you just have one car an out and out sports car would not work for most, kids, family and the like mean a two seater is not much use nor pleasant for commuting.

I would say something like an M8 would be good, or a Range Rover!

For me this would have to be the V8 Rover SD1. Put all the Adults and kids in for holidays/Taxi Service for the kids plus all the luggage and at weekends treat it as a sport car!

Another for the 911 having owned and driven a 911S for 45,000 miles.

If it has to be just one car, one that is fun to drive and has to cope with all everyday journeys, then for me it would also be a Land Rover Defender (the real one). I could also imagine a return to the Citroen 2CV. In real life, however, I'm glad that I can burden my Dacia Logan with all the everyday drives and that I have the Morgan 4/4 for my driving pleasure.
