That oil tank seems to be placed to take up maximum room, and with the full sized battery where it is, that space is pretty much unusable when it could be quite useful. If the oil tank was moved back to the bulkhead, where the battery presently is, and the battery swapped for one of those small gel batteries, which could be fitted more or less anywhere out of the way, I can see a bit of useable space being created under the front cover, maybe not enough for a couple of helmets, but certainly useful for more than it is now.

Lovely colour by the way Aeroman, and beautifully applied by the factory painters. It looks stunning in that picture.

It is possible that something like this will be a change over time sort of thing. Many have said from the beginning that the space (as little as there is) could have been used in a more efficient way. It is a shame that something like this would not have been thought through a bit more as a seemingly substantial amount of space could have been added here and there had things been relocated slightly.

The worst to me is making the front hood a two man job to lift. Its going to be hard to use any potential space up there when you need to lift the lid off in such a way as it has been designed. Chances are, the rear compartment will be the only vehicular storage outside of the main seating cabin.

Thanks Paul, as you say they've done a great job as they did also on my Aero SS. cheers

I did think of seeing if it was possible to move the oil tank and re-jig things under that front bonnet to try and create more usable space, but the guys are under pressure to produce and I thought I had taxed them enough already! innocent

Maybe they will do it on the Series II 3W!

As long as you don't plan to store anything under the front bonnet that is perishable.......with the oil tank in there it's going to get pretty warm!

I love your choice of colour Aeroman ...... Must be nice for the guys in the factory to work on something as bespoke. One thing that is noticeable when you go round the factory, apart from the enthusiasm is the sheer quality of the paintwork.

When I get around to getting one, I will probably be relegating the front to spare parts and tools, including a shovel.

Also, I'll be adding some webbing thingies to hold some leather straps across (from bottom to top) in the footwell of the passenger side. Not that that will stop any dedicated thief, but it will allow me to place a bag there without fear of some opportunist thieve stealing a bag while I'm away for a couple of minutes.

Depending on the feasability, I will probably add some leather handles on top of the front to be able to lift it off singlehandedly.

I'll be using a lockable wire for the helmet, I think, and depending on whether or not the space aft of the seat rest is usuable, I might be using that for a jacket, leather helmet, first aid kit or something.

The passenger footwell also have room for a weekend size soft bag (man version that is).

Maybe a left (or right) hand hinged front bonnet is something for the MkII, making it a one-person-one-hand-operation. Also easier to keep dry when opened partly in heavy rain (bringing out your rain-kit etc). The retro "half helmets" with leather on the sides and back does not take that much space and can also be "stacked" to save some extra centimeters.

In reality, I think that one has to think "motorcycle security" and act accordingly.

Yes, someone could snatch the front wheels, but really, they're 19 inches and not meant for motorcycles, so who cares about them?

If someone goes to the trouble of snatching the front wheels, it would be much easier to drag the whole thing up on something and drive away with it on the back, like they do with motorcycles.

Some nice wires, some nice straps, and hide what you can hide should do just fine in every day scenarios. Get an ugly, dark full cover for the thing for leaving it out during the night in dodgy places and a wire lock or chain to lock it to something.

Someone I knew used to leave his bike locked to the steel pipe pole of a street parking sign. He come out one morning to find they had cut the pole with a pipe cutter and taken the bike complete with its heavy duty chain and lock. Pole and sign were left lying on the ground.

Those security fixings look great!

In terms of theft (of the entire vehicle) isn't there a Thatcham approved imobiliser being offered as an option? I saw some cars have a single LED above the starter button on the dash - assumed it was that? Of course that just stops them starting the engine...

On a slight tangent - is there a M3W colour thread on here somewhere? There must be about 800 people who will be making that choice in the next year or so (me included)?

Yup, there's that, of course. It still must have taken them time.

As for immobilisers, I don't trust them, after having seen faulty ones making the motorcycle unusable.

I figure that if overnighting someplace dodgy, the thing is covered in something dark, chained to something sturdy, and lacking the steering wheel, and they STILL want to steal it, an immobilser is unnecessary as surely they will circumvent that easily too.
