Rebuilt the windscreen wiper motor for my 1955 Plus 4 DHC. Gearbox was fine until I lost some of the needle rollers (for some reason Lucas used an uncaged needle roller bearing in the gearbox with 30 off 2mm x 7.8mm needle rollers - unfortunately I lost a couple. My local bearing factor provided replacements for less than a fiver.

Rebuilt the motor after cleaning in solvent, gave the armature a quick skim and polish in the lathe. Brushes were unworn so put them back. Bead blasted and painted the top plate, horseshoe and the bakelite end cover.

Then sat down at my drawing board to do some drawings of a lug I need to fabricate for my 1938 4-4. Sadly the local foundry I used for getting parts cast closed last year and fabrication is the only option

Yes, sadly I've noticed quite a few small niche manufacturers closing in the last couple of years, post Covid the younger generation don't want to take over the old trades and the current legislation, health n safety, etc doesn't help

Fixed the offside rear speaker. One of those rare jobs that went much better than expected. Despite needing to remove numerous fixings to get out quarter panel including the hood release all came out and went back in easily. Problem as suspected was just a lead that had come off, probably when I fitted wires to adjacent reversing sounder.

Hi Richard, Take it you fitted the speakers in the offside quarter panel. First question would have to be did it make much difference in sound quality? Don't suppose you have any pic's of inside the panel when fitting and did you need to shave the frame anywhere in order to fit them.
Take it they're standard 4" speakers or are they shallower options. I think it's a good solution/add on if the sound clarity is worth it as those footwell buried options were useless in that you loose so much sound you turn them up too high and the standard fit just distorts. I changed them out for pioneer of a better quality and that has helped although driving in a built up area makes you look like a twit as in order to hear the thing you turn it into a mobile speaker! Any advice or tips would be gratefully received.

Martin.

Greased the three propshaft nipples. Front two are a pig to access as only narrow gap between floorboards as below. I have a dedicated grease gun tube with bend to suit.

The sliding joint nipple is the only one with a cover so difficult to see until you know of it's presence.

Picked up the door from the paint shop and hung it back on the car.

Washed the Plus 4 and the 4/4 and I drove the Plus 4 and my cousin drove the 4/4 in Dads funeral cortege yesterday.

Two family friends rode his racing motorcycles ahead of us, so had the lovely sound of two pre war racing singles on open pipes and the smell of them running on Castrol R, fair brought a tear to the eye.
