Considering you can pick one up in the UK, nearly new, for £50,000 (for the top performance version - same as the video above), that is a lot of performance for the money.

Indeed it is. But now owning an ev the experience is very different to an ice.
I like both but my heart is with the Morgan

There is a place for both (and the MX-5)... horses for courses, etc!

I had a sit in one last weekend at Nathaniels Bridgend. Scissor doors and very impressive, If it had a Morgan badge on it the price would be four times as much. We had an Mg6 for a couple of years and had a lot of ignition issues depreciation was horrendous with not many sold. Times have changed a bit with lots of pre reg deals about. Em

It is interesting to see the development of EVs. Setting aside whether they are achieving what governments believe they are, purely from a performance, range and experience perspective, the progress keeps me interested.

Hyundai, with the release of the Ioniq 5 N, have tried to inject 'ice' experience into a pure EV. Whilst I haven't driven one, reviews seem to suggest that they have achieved a lot of what they set out to do from a performance perspective and most are glowingly positive. There are some criticisms that it struggles to hide the overall weight in spirited cornering but that may simply be journalist being ultra picky; however, where it does seem to fall down is the simulated ICE sounds of the 'engine'. Hyundai have designed the car to have gear shift 'snap' (for want of a better word!) and along with that, the sound of the engine increasing in revs, as you would get from an ICE. It seems they haven't quite perfected this but I'm sure it will come and chances are it may even be mastered with the current car via a software update. Thus, it would seem the experiential side of ICE car ownership is also being addressed. Once mastered, other than smell (which you could pipe into the cabin... if you were so inclined!), I think many people would struggle to tell an ICE car from an EV from behind the wheel.

As for MG, there is talk that the Cyberster is going to spawn a coupe version, called the GTS. It has been hinted that this may arrive this year in time for the 60th anniversary of the launch of the MGB GT. I'm not entirely sold on the looks but if the cost model remains the same, MG should be adding another decent offering to their line up:

In other news, SiL has just bought a W12 LWB Audi A8 to replace his VW Phaeton.............2 owners and 20k miles from new. It's quite the timewarp.

Which Phaeton did he have?

For a couple of years I ran a V10TDi and it was fantastic. 110000 miles and it hardly dropped a part.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
