I believe the 5 Yokohama C-Drive 2 tyres fitted to my 2014 Plus 4 are the original tyres (tyre marking is YYY5013). Even though they look in great condition, I am going to change them. Can anyone recommend a tyre fitter near Falmouth/ Truro in Cornwall who has experience with wire wheels? I have purchased a set of 42mm balancing cones, but want to find somewhere that has dealt with Morgans before. Also, has anyone had experience of the Pirelli Cinturato P1 tyre? I have read on here about changing to 195/65R15 to increase ground clearance, but does the insurance company need to approve this modification?

Bob, make sure they remove the tyre and refit from the rear or internal side ie. inside up on the machine as this protects the seal on the spokes internally as the tyre is removed. To be honest if you have the balancing cones you should be fine anywhere, just make sure you are there with them doing it. You will probably get a much better price on the tyres if you use a black circles fitters than a specialist and a discount for multiple tyres too. If your wires are in good shape and in good balance they will even balance well if just fitted straight on the balancing machine's face plate, I know as I've had it done and on checking later with cones it confirmed a true balance!

I put 65 profile tyres on my plus4 when I changed the full five. It will give you slightly better ground clearance and a smoother ride, much smoother and i didn't really notice any difference in the general drive of the car but really appreciate the extra comfort! You are also then in the VW polo tyre size and can buy quality tyres at a much better price. Last year I paid, fully fitted, for five Bridgestone Turanza tyres £325.00 whereas the Yokohama were over £700.00, It's your choice Bob.

I can also recommend Perranwell Garage. Last year I had a slow puncture, needed a replacement valve, and they not only sorted it out but at a very reasonable cost. Great people to deal with as well.
I would also second the fitting of 65 section tyres rather than 60. Might not seem like much but the difference on my previous Morgan, also a 2014 Plus 4, was noticeable in that where it used to scrape over certain speed bumps before it went over without scraping with the replacement tyres. That car did seem to have very low ground clearance though for some reason. I didn't notice any adverse effects on handling etc but just be aware that as it is a change of diameter it will affect the speed reading, from memory about 3% but could be wrong. Actually made my speedometer more accurate!

Thanks for the replies. Perranwell Garage don’t do tyres, but they did recommend Falmouth Tyres. I spoke with a very knowledgable gentleman called Dave who gave me a very good price on 5 x Yokohama ES32 tyres. I have stuck with the 195/60R15 size and I’m currently running at 22psi (I believe 24 psi is the recommended). Ground clearance hasn’t been an issue so far and I think that the new Wolf Performance dampers (front and rear) have helped. I had a long discussion with the fitter, John, who pointed out that the internal ridge on the wheels does not allow the tyre to be removed face down as the ridge is offset to the front on my wheels.
