I know some of you are as anti Facebook as I am Twatter, Instagram etc but...I haven’t visited yet but I’m going to put that right soon they are only a few miles away.

Today they had a really good post on FB about their current projects with good pictures etc.

Yes the stuff of dreams, just fabulous machines and now made tractable for touring in todays conditions

If they still do the annual Concours it's well worth a visit, some rare cars on show

Wondered where they get the donor vehicles from? Presume there are very few unrestored pre war Bentleys remaining, so assume each Peterson requires the sacrifice of an existing low value model.

Had a quick look and there are sub £50k Bentleys for sale from the 30’s so assume these have to be the source.

That is the case as far as I know, I'll ask when I go there, it's such a low percentage of the final cost.

Think I read somewhere that ex military RR engines may be used to power such recreations...? I also suspect that the ability for the finished machine not to be required to display reflective numberplates may well determine the age of the identity to be adopted from whatever donor might be found.... I had the opportunity to get close to what I imagine may have been a Petersen Bentley at a car show held on the marquis of Bute`s estate on the island of Bute .... Just great to see the craftsmanship involved in recreating such a wonderful machine, though I did hear comment that it was not real, which was perhaps expected as there were some "real" vintage Bentley's in attendance..

Getting the DVLA to recognise a Petersen as the original donor vehicle and not ending up with a Q plate must be another hurdle.

Clipper such have been the numerous alterations in DVLA regs over the years I have little to no idea of the requirements to create such fine machines and to avoid reflective plates which would to the eyes of folk like me, just spoil so much relative to all the craftsmanship involved in their recreation...?

I suspect DVLA regs have been studied carefully when it comes to finding appropriate age donors to create the likes of 911 and other replicas and restomods in the UK..?

Why does it need to be pre-war? You need car with a chassis, pre 1963 log book and an engine. Why do the DVLA need to know? I had a mate who did that with a Roesch Talbot, just changed the body, shortened the chassis etc and drove it. No MOT either!!
