Ok, again some interesting new hints. thumbs

Thank you Keith! The lockable rack straps seem to be a very good idea and they´re even a bit cushioned to avoid scratches on the suitcase when the car moves and jiggles on the road.
I will ask if they also would ship it to Germany.

But also Dave´s solution with the Python cable looks fine.

Up to me now to choose my favorite. juggle

Kind regards,

George

I have ordered a pair of 2.5 m from http://store.magicseaweed.com/SPT-Lockable-Rack-Straps/Item/191/ which is in the UK
They shipped the same day.

The European distributor for this Australian product is currently out of stock.

How exactly do you use those SPT Kanulock straps to secure a suitcase? Perhaps a photo "in action"?

Thanks
Nigel

Three questions:-

(1)Can anyone advise me regarding the best source for a decent "H" strap to secure a case on the rear rack? I see MMC list one, and Simmonds too. But it's hard to get a decent pic to judge the quality. I'll certainly add one or other of the security solutions recommended here - but it'd be nice to have a quality luggage strap arrangement in place.

(2)Does anyone have any experience of the quality of the leather suitcase listed by MMC. Again the pics are of little help - but it looks particularly square and "boxy" Suitcase - and it's not cheap! I have a suitable Samsonite case - but the vintage look is quite tempting!

(3) Are Les Flics in France really hot on high-level brake light visibility - or is it best to just remove it?

All advice for my first Morgan foreign touring holiday in June gratefully received shades

Hi Nick,

Maybe I'm a cheapskate, but when I misplaced/lost the proper straps just before a trip to France last year, I ended up with a couple of leather trouser belts fastened together lengthways to make each strap. It was OK and so when we visited Devon last weekend I bought some leather XXL belts from a stall in Tavistock indoor market in case my originals don't turn up before LMC in July.

We have always use the Samsonite type suitcase, rather like the one in the post by David of SW19. If you look at his post you will also see that he has mounted a high level brake light on one of the cross pieces of the H strap. I did the same with an LED light from ebay. I seem to recall that Dave Wellings posted a guide to how he did it on here

Best wishes for the trip!

Holdens also do the "H" straps for luggage ...a bit cheaper than MMC and Simmonds. I have a Simmonds bonnet strap and that is beautifully made so I guess his luggage straps are much the same quality.

The factory suitcase isn't a bad price when you look at alternative leather luggage although I do find it quite boxy and bulky. I have my fathers old 1930's leather bound suitcase for the back of my car...a bit smaller and rather battered!

Very nice job, Easter. There's an excellent saddler in Newton Abbot, close to me: I might ask him for a quote - although I think the Holden straps will probably do what I need, and at £55 are probably cheaper than I could get them made for!

£55 is a good price, I may need to get a new set for my Roadster (with spare wheel so Sport straps might not fit) unfortunately my saddler has not been well so I'm loath to bother him at the moment

Managed to pick up the case in a second hand shop for A$45.00, fitted a Morgan script badge and lashed it on with the Morgan luggage strap.
