Julian ... I can see where you're coming from but:
A goodly number of Supersports sales will be to former trad 'old crusties' who need something more civilised as they become less robust.
Plenty of older drivers have embraced serial upgrades as new models have appeared ... and will embrace this one.
As a company that trades so heavily on it's history, seeing the trad cars and old three wheelers out being used (and abused) gives legitimacy to that sales pitch and stops the cars becoming an empty stylistic pastiche.
When the ex-Aston and ex-Porsche owners have done their 'morgan-thing' and flutter off to whatever the new thing is, the drivers in the first two categories (and their successors) will still buy Morgans.
If the company are smart they'll spend a little of their PR budget generating a 'clubbie' group for the old cars, encouraging their use and building that 'family' connection from the oldest three-wheeers to whatever the last model was ... the best of their target demographic want 'experience' more than 'things' ... and that history and us old fossils that drive them is a priceless resource ... both for cynical marketing purposes and in genuinely building a brand that has real value for the customer who's tired of fancy appliances.
K I agree with so much of what you say. However, investment into a dying market has to be measured by cost benefit. As a company I know they are invested in all their customers, young and old. Yet as a strategy for future proofing, the young (30s-50s) are the people to appeal to. If I were Morgan, ensuring a mix of exciting and unique cars, with a breadth of appeal is a solid strategy. S3, Four and Supersport as the core range, with short runs of bespoke and unique crafted builds like the CXT and midsummer.

Love the 90s ZX10, so many were drawn to the Fireblade and missed out on some theatre. Agreed - amazing engine and power, slightly underwhelming chassis and brakes. There was an old joke about Fireblades - they were refered to as the 'clitoris'. I won't give the punchline as I'd probably get kicked off the forum (PM me if anyone is desperate to know). I use the same joke now about Porsches. 'Arty waffle' right, the next video is going to be dedicated to you, so you better be ready. To be honest, if a video doesn't involve spanners, welders and profanity directly related to something I need to fix, I don't tend to watch it. If Youtube suggests another video of some bloke driving round in a posh car with a camera stuck to the windscreen I think I may shoot myself in the face. I may stick around on the forum if that's ok. I hadn't said I wasn't going to post, although you may wish I had 😄. Do, we'd all be interested in the Supersport experience

Love the 90s ZX10, so many were drawn to the Fireblade and missed out on some theatre. Derestricted FZR1000 EXUP for me. I loved it but I always got the feeling it was laughing at me, it was capable of far more than I ever had the bottle to give it.

I hope we haven't lost Spencer. His PlusFour was delayed in build. He was on one of my factory tours (when I was still a tour guide) and his enthusiasm for Morgans showed. We did find his car and he managed a few close photos (we're both into Leicas and as it turned out Land Rovers). I would happily have spent a lot more time in his company and value his input here.

Spencer, I thought long and hard about whether or not to reply. I try to be completely honest in everything I say now. I have the impression that your reaction to leave the forum is a bit over the top. Yes, there has been some criticism of some of your comments and perhaps also of your manner in certain contexts. But does that have to cause such a reaction from you? I've often had to deal with offence in my life, or perhaps just the subjective feeling of being offended. Is it worth leaving the forum? Shouldn't it be seen as positive and give rise to a little bit of self-reflection? From my point of view, I would appreciate it if you showed a little less of the zealot and more that you are a bon vivant, which in my view you really are. Because I have enjoyed many of your really eloquent contributions. Your texts often describe driving a Morgan very vividly. Your photos are an invaluable asset to the forum, they are top class and very aesthetic. Your video, as Richard reminded, was with a wonderful message, and it shows the connoisseur in you. It would be a great pity if we could not continue to take part in your journey in Morganland. I imagine wonderful photos with your Supersports. Perhaps another inspiring video too. Please think it over again. You won't lose a jag if you revise your decision to leave. This forum is a benefit for all Morgan lovers and for each and every one of us. You are one of them.
BTW I won't be able to be there in 30 years, that would be sad. I appreciate your honesty and thoughtful response, Heinz. You raise some thoughtful observations and fair criticism, so let me pop back on for a second to sign off with a little explanation of where I suspect I’ve gone wrong and hopefully finish a little more convivially. I genuinely wish all of you good healthy and truly happy motoring. I think Simon’s suggestion that it’s like a pub here is fitting, but it strikes me that in addition to having different views and experiences within the pub some of us have different pub preferences. I think the error here is truly mine. When I joined you all here as a dewy eyed new Morgan owner at the ripe old age of 34 I suppose I came in with the thought that the tone and tenor of enthusiasts would be enthusiastic. There may be cultural differences here too. Canadians are generally a pretty up-beat bunch. I do really love the company and their cars right now. I have not always and I may not always. I’m okay with that. I don’t see this as a covenant. I loved my Four and am excited about my Supersport. But if the company took a turn in a direction I objected to and wasn’t making cars I liked I’d take my business and energy elsewhere. Or I’d appreciate that I had a car I liked and let the company do as it does. As I had genuinely thought I would feel in advance of seeing the Supersport. Similarly if my given Morgan proves overly problematic or challenging in ownership, I’ll take the loss and move on. Even at my tender age life seems too short for driving bad cars. I appreciate now this isn’t everyone’s way of thinking, but as I say I had thought that those expending energy on Morgan discussions would be doing so positively, the prospect it might be negative genuinely surprised me as I’m generally reluctant to expend energy on something negative. Again, I appreciate that this may put me at odds with a significant British pub past time. In any event, I think this pub just might not be my ‘local.’ That said, I’d be genuinely happy to take any of you to my actual local up here in the Dales and talk about cars and life and good ale to our hearts content. The offer is in earnest. If any of you ever find yourselves up in the Dales and would like me to buy you a pint, drop me an email and we’ll meet up and go for a drive and grab a pint by the fire. My email is: Spencer.w.bentley@gmail.com Truly wishing you all well.

It's been an interesting exchange of views, for a moment there I forgot it was only about a car. I'll be interested to see the feedback from owner's personal experiences, especially those who have owned a CX and does the Supersport represent another step change for the better in the ownership experience.
It will be interesting to see if it appeals to a wider audience and we actually see the cars being used, rather than the secondhand market full of low mileage cars ( be they trad or CX) Cars are to be driven and enjoyed.

Thank you for your very generous reply, Spencer. I will gladly accept your invitation to have a beer with you by the fire in your pub in Dales. Even if this TM pub isn't your regular haunt, just pop in from time to time and please keep posting photos. BTW I have known Canadians in a very friendly and helpful way on the Klipsch speaker forum, which I have been a member of for 19 years.

Maybe I didn't understand everything correctly, but I'm of the opinion that it wasn't mainly about an insistence on "classic car technology", but when criticism was voiced, it was comments on styling aspects of the Supersport?
That Morgan can only survive if it follows the technical developments as far as necessary was (mostly) affirmed here.
I am therefore somewhat surprised at the direction this thread has taken.
The fact that this development will now exceed my financial means is a pity for me, but in my view does not speak against the Morgan brand.
And yes, for me there have been more successful design developments in the past than the Supersport.
Although I still enjoy sitting in a coffee shop and looking at our beloved 4/4, I still look with great pleasure at photos of Ale_72's ‘Violett’, for example.

Well when I opened this thread I was full of excitement and optimism but tonight I feel a little sad at the path it has taken.
But love the Supersport Cabriolet.
