A friend successfully fitted an electric conversion on his 2003 Plus 8 at a fraction of the cost of the above system, it does mean chopping the steering column though but DIY possible. I'll find out details of the kit if anyone is interested but looks very similar to the Motorsport Tools version commonly used on RS2000's etc.

Would you mind taking a few pictures of your power steering step up. especially the parts you had to fabricate. Thanks in advance

My car has the first factory fitted electric power steering it has been great it is finger light at parking speeds and gets tightens up gradually with the speed. You've got the best version which was developed by a specialist for MMC and has speed monitoring variable assistance, they (MMC) then binned him, tried to value engineer / copy it and the later system is a bit bodgetastic basic

A good Morganeering friend of mine, who I trust implicitly and also has a Roadster Four Seater has just fitted this himself (very brave) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2025/03/13/IMG_9587.md.jpeg) He messaged me yesterday saying it was absolutely superb, saying how delighted he was with the result and that I must, must meet up and give his Morgan a drive as I’ll be smitten We’ll probably meet up in Southport next week But Strangely one thing I never groan about or even think of as being rubbish is the steering on mine. Maybe it’s because it feels better than my previous Morgan or maybe being a relatively fit 57 year old, who plays tennis 3 or 4 times a week, my arms never feels overly worked It’s not something I’ve ever thought about improving But have any of you fine Morganistas had this fitted and if so what do think about it? It doesn’t seem daft money Stewart, the above is a bit old school hydraulic driven, so involves a pump belt driven off the engine & a whole new replacement rack The link Griffo included is a much simpler electric motor which basically 'assists' the existing steering column, decent ones are speed sensitive (some are driver adjustable on the fly) and tends to be the more modern approach

I have a 4/4, Cannot see a reason anyone would require power steering. The 4/4 in my opinion is the ultimate Morgan. Happy days

Well, not everybody drives a 4/4, so somebody might benefit from a PAS. The real advantage is on twisting country roads, more or less spirited driving. It is so much easier to place the car where you want on the road, make quick corrections, adjust your course or avoid an obstruction. I would say PAS increases safety while driving. On the highway the speed is so high that you rarely need PAS, and while parking you always get along if the car is in motion, although it is a bit cumbersome. A 4/4 with skinny tyres might not need it (although I am sure it would be an improvement), on my Roadster it was a massive change to the better. A front-heavy +8 will definately benefit, as the other variants, in my opinion. I see no conflict with the "Morgan ethos". I would not fit PAS on a Bentley Blower, but a Morgan is no classic car but a strange but charming creature they forgot to stop making. So why not make life a little easier - and safer. As for brand, I can recommend the Dutch Ez Electric Power Steering, www.ezpowersteering.co.uk. Quite a few have fitted this here i Norway, all very happy. No fabrication of extra parts. You swap your steering column for another, with the electric motor already installed. Not i DIY job though, unless you are quite skilled. You get it with manual control or speed dependent. I prefer to be in charge myself, so I went for manual. It is mostly on full power, I might reduce it somewhat on the highway or the like. Strongly recommended.

Unfortunately in the last 12 months or so I fractured one arm and damaged and weakened the muscles in my other arm at the same time, just a fact of life. Which has reduced the strength and grip in both my arms and hands With the wider 205 tyres on my Plus4, makes hard lock turns at parking speeds whilst backing my car into its garage opening an immense strain and a chore. Something that Sue's diminutive size and strength couldn't do even on a good day. So the need for speed related power assistance may become a necessity. Whilst moving its not really an issue, but parking and slow speed manoeuvres on full lock can be draining after a while. I can see the benefit of power steering in certain circumstances, no matter what Morgan you drive.
Having had three 4/4's with skinny tyres my garage parking manoeuvres were still a pain in the backside on a good day.
