Hi all. It's all taken longer than I thought. A CT scan showed possible valve problem so I had to have a procedure where they knocked me out and put a camera in me to see the back of the heart. Amazing technology. No end of tests, they are so thorough and focused. Good news was valve is ok. So the delayed surgery hopefully very early next week. I'm here at Brompton hospital so everything is excellent., staff and care brilliant.
So apart from being a week behind schedule all is good.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Nick

Thanks for the thought.
Mine turned out to be rather more complicated than first thought. I ended up in intensive care for longer than normal and it was a fortnight before I came home. Recovery has been slower than I would have liked but recovery it is. I've just started rehab classes so must be doing ok. No driving the mog yet though.....
It's my poor wife suffering really, she has to do everything!
Actually, keeping up to date here has been very helpful.
All best,
Nick

Sorry to hear recovery did not go as quickly as you had hoped. However, great to read that you are indeed recovering! Hope for you and loved ones you keep progressing steadily.
Cheers,
Bert

Sorry Nick, didn't see this post.
Glad progress is being made even if seemingly a little slow.
Understand comments regarding your wife. I'm recovering from a back problem and my wife's help is invaluable. So, don't forget the flowers!
Kindest regards
Geof

Nick, I too am sorry to read that it was more complicated than first thought but glad you are recovering and are now in the rehabilitation stage. Slow and steady may be feel frustrating at times but often brings a stronger end result.

As with DaveW, sending positive thoughts your way.

I know we're all 'terribly British' and don't want to speak about how we're doing; however, when you feel like it, please give us an update as to how you're getting on.

Thanks all.
I must say that the NHS was (is) absolutely amazing. The teamwork at the Brompton was astonishing and so caring.
Some of the patients are so rude to the staff who just absorb it in a most loving way. They are doing this every day!
It certainly upgraded my appreciation and admiration of them.
The tech is amazing too. When I came home I had to post photos of two of the bigger wounds every couple of days. They would send me a response within half an hour; they obviously have a team monitoring it constantly

Just amazing.
Nick

I'm in agreement. It is far too easy to rubbish the NHS and criticise the system we have in place. Could it be improved, absolutely; however, I'd rather have it and know there is room to improve the system, than be without it. Furthermore, in my direct experience, I too have found the vast majority of the medical staff: caring, compassionate and professional. Most of the improvements are centred around the bureaucracy, administration, budgeting and operational side - not the medical staff. In my experience, those who find fault with the entirety of the NHS haven't spent extended periods of time in a country that lacks publicly funded healthcare.
