The plus 6 has been on life support for two years now starts first time every time, however after a long run on saturday I decided to leave it for a few days. I went to start her this morning only just managed a click. on the six if you turn the ignition on and off the engine clicks and grone's for about ten mins then decides to go sleep the same as a mate's car. I thought it might last a week without a top up the battery might be on the way out or are yours the same. Em

You should get a CTEK or similar battery conditioner suiterd to an AGM battery. You might just save it.

I would have thought it should last a week; what's drawing power? Analogue clock and, if you have one, a tracker. That's like having a massive battery powering a small phone, so should be plenty in there IMHO.

Pardon my ignorance on this one,the first owner had a tracker contract which I never renewed obviously still fitted somewhere. Does this mean it still draws from the battery or only activated power wise when you have a contract. Not really into electrckery.or trackers. Em

Yes, unfortunately, that is the case with most trackers. The brain will draw power constantly, so that it can send an alert to the monitoring station if it believes there has been an attempted theft. The subscription element, is the annual renewal (some companies do longer contracts), and only means the company will notify you if the vehicle has an alert.

It is a relatively common issue with modern classics. A lot of insurance companies made them a requirement when these cars were new; however, as the requirement lapsed, these vehicles were left with inert trackers. These boxes still draw power from the battery but are of no use because the contract had been defunct for a long period of time - and in a few cases, are either old tech so the contract can't be renewed or, in a few cases, the company that supplied them are no longer in business.

Think of the 'brain' as a security guard sitting in your vehicle, taking a pay cheque (the power from the battery) but not reporting to anyone because they have no one to report to.

Sorry but its not just on the way out it's already toast! Get a new one and use car at least every three weeks if at all possible. A charger/conditioner left on 24/7 is not optimal and can often just serve to mask the minimal battery capacity remaining which is clearly the case here.
