I am looking at buying either a plus 4 or 4/4 and some I have looked at have wear to the drivers door seat on the seat back bolster that is rubbed as the driver has got in and out. The leather is intact but the finish has gone and in some cases it looks like some sort of repair has been tried. Has anyone any experience of having just part of the seat bolster refinished or possibly just the bolster retrimmed in new leather. If so how effective was it and at what sort of cost

Our old 1985 4/4 suffered like this. When the seat springs went, I took the seats to Autotrim in Leicester. They replaced the springs and sorted the drivers seat bolster. I couldn't find the repair once they had done it. The seats were black on that car.

Our 2014 4/4 has Magnolia upholstery and the bolster has just started to lose the colour where I rub it getting in and out. I haven't had the courage to investigate a repair yet as I suspect that Magnolia will be much harder to match than black was on the old car.

So, to answer your question - yes on black leather with good results.

If you cut a sample from underneath, Furniture Clinic can match the dye. Obviously black is easier, but the level of gloss also matters. There will no doubt be some leather repair videos on You Tube. The first part to go is the edge beading on the drivers backrest, and that will start getting a bit worn after 10,000 miles

Several companies do Acrylic Leather paint to match a sample, I have used Liquid Leather Scuffmasrter to match Morgan Stone and it is a good match.

I recently remade two door cards and used Vinyl upholstery Faux leather in cream but because of the amount required I made up 'Stone' in Artists Acrylic and it works just the same although having colour matching experience is a help, black would be no problem and the finish is good, it does not look like paint and is flexible.

You can use a soft Artist brush or a sponge to apply. Regards John K

Allon White's trim shop managed to match my Magnolia leather when they added padded side screen trims Paul. I had to advise them on particular type though to ensure they had matching in stock as the factory used variants. It seems my car used leather from Yarwoods Brooklands range. They will also mix up paint on repair to correct minor scuffs.

A good local car trimmer will sort that quickly, They are surprisingly cheap for what they do and the finish is excellent! My advice is don't waste your time and money having a go, it's not easy to achieve a suitable finish and you will probably spend easily as much on materials. The Mog seats are easy to pop out, only six bolts per side, and not very heavy I'm sure the trimmer will be most appreciative when you give him the seat without the car!

To not buy your dream car because of some wear or damage to the seats is banana's, Bit like not buying your dream house because the toilet is dirty! Nothing to stop you using as a price negotiator though! Its what potential purchasers notice and the more a buyer knows the less attention they pay to worrying about small issues like that. However if you are new to Morgan ownership, join your local MSCC branch and ask for help. They are not like a normal car when viewing and driving so having a wise old sage with you will help keep your feet on the ground and your money in your wallet! Ask the branch secretary and they will tell you who to ask for that help! You'll probably find they will be able to steer you in the direction of a local car known to them and a good deal will follow!

If the potential Mog is at a dealers just negotiate the purchase to include sorting out any trim & leatherwork issues...simples

Leathercare based in High Legh, Cheshire did a fantastic job on my car, they cleaned, redyed and treated all leather in car which included recolouring some non-matching leather and wear spots on bolsters. I was thinking of having all leatherwork replaced but this cost a tenth of the price and still has the original colour.
