I bought Rog assistors for my Plus 8 but sold it before fitting them ( traded in when buying a Plus Four) and still have them. The reports of their effectiveness prompted the purchase and I was starting to plan long term future proofing of the car. A test drive of a Plus Four and mrs sospan's comments as a passenger led to the change!
Her comment " Oh come on, let's do it" overrode all my plans!

I i rebuilt my MOG i had the SSL set up front and back. Not a bad job to do DIY, full instructions are given, as long as you know one end of a hammer from the other. It has changed the ride completely, for the better. With the roads getting worst every day, i reckon if you going to keep the MOG, its a no brainer!

Following on from my last post, Mrs K is now happy to get in the MOG. Also as I get older, my back has got weaker and weaker. I think you should have a go in a MOG with the proper SSL set up and see for yourself!

Yep, for me it's the assisters and a panard rod on the rear! Dont think you can beat it!

RichardV6 is spot on re. the progressive rate springs of the SSL front set up. They really do take the initial hard bumpy ride form normal driving surfaces which a Mog finds disturbing yet damps and moves into a normal suspension set up loading seamlessly which helps over the standard springs which give a crashing response as they are an all or nothing set up. A standard set up isn't that bad but does benefit from smooth road surfaces and good maintenance whereas the SSL system just makes it nicer to hold the steering wheel!
I wish that we could just get progressive rate springs as a standalone replacement, The SSL front kit is fast approaching a grand now!

My 217 80th anniversary Plus 4 which I bought in 2021 had been fitted with SSL suspension by the previous owner.When looking for a car I drove five others all of which had unmodified suspension before buying mine. It seemed to me that the handling on the SSL one was so much better than the others I tried. I have been told that there may be an issue of reduced rear suspension travel but I have not experienced it in the three years I have had the car.

Many thanks everyone for your comments. The consensus seems to be that if I go down the SSL route then front is more important than rear which surprises me (but delights my wallet). What I think I'll do is ask my nearest dealer (Oakmere) to fit adjustable shocks all round and see how that works before I spend more on the SSL. A few people made reference to the Rog's bump assistors which I've now researched and look as they could be a cost effective upgrade also. What I failed to mention in the original post is that my car has brake reaction bars and a Panhard rod fitted by the previous owner so I may already be part way to an optimal solution.

Excellent mods, the Panhard rod is great for stopping the rear springs from skipping under hard cornering.
