How about a haiku?

Three wheels hum with joy,
Road whispers beneath the breeze,
Freedom wears a grin.

Henry, your post was wonderful and did read like poetry - a very nice tribute to the Super 3 and certainly gives a good feel for the car. cheers

Before purchasing an S3 or M3W please check the proper functioning of your handle, elbow and shoulder. In fact, you cannot go a kilometer without responding to someone who waves at you.

I finally got to try a Super 3 yesterday - courtesy of the lovely team at Morgan Brands Hatch. It was a perfect sunny day, which must have helped, but I really enjoyed the experience. A few reflections to share:
1. the cockpit is tighter than I thought it would be, particularly when getting in and out, but plenty of legroom with the pedal box adjusted to its furthest position (which was very easy to do).
2. the high pitched belt whine is noticeable at first because it's a different noise than you expect, but I found that pretty soon it faded into the background and didn't trouble me at all by the end. I would love to try a chain drive though - has anyone got one or tried one yet?
3. the engine is quite powerful enough, but obviously lacks the aural drama of the S&S 3 wheeler. I'm keen to try a sports exhaust to see if it makes much of a difference. I didn't miss the vibration of the old model - I could imagine taking the Super 3 for a longer drive. 50mph comfortable, 60 mph starts getting to the point where I'd quite like a visor though.
4. the width of the front wheels didn't bother me at all - its very easy to place and no problem on typical English country roads where two cars passing is a little bit of a squeeze.
5. the ride is surprisingly good - nice plump front tyres and decent suspension travel so really quite comfortable - more compliant than my Aero. I didn't sense the rear getting light going over bumpy, rolling roads, which was re-assuring.
6. I'd like a harder brake pedal feel, but the brakes ultimately work fine - and it's not a car for heroic Lotus Elise/MX-5 driving, so I suspect "slow in - fast out" is the better driving style and engine braking is encouraged by the engine characteristics and the great gearbox.
7. smiles, waves and driver road courtesy experienced at every turn!

Next steps - drive an old and a new back-to-back (I'm favouring a Super 3 at the moment), try out a Super 3 with the sports exhaust, and get my wife to come with me to make sure she knows what she's letting me get her into!

Great in the lovely weather we're experiencing to get the Aero out to drive there and back - nothing quite like a torquey V8 with side exhausts!
Happy driving ....

Hi Beard,

I've owned Morgans for 10 years.

My first Morgan was a 2012 MTW with an S&S engine, which I kept for four years.

The positives of the MTW with an S&S engine:
- Captivating sound
- Great retro look
- The torque of the S&S

The negatives of the MTW:
- Many parts break due to excessive engine vibration
- Transmission too fragile compared to the engine's torque
- Too much weight on the front end
- The S&S X-Wedge is apparently no longer manufactured. What about spare parts availability?

I've also owned the new Morgan Super 3 for a year.

The positives of the MS3:
- The engine is in a front mid-mounted position, so the car is much more balanced.
- You can see that the car has really benefited from significant research and development.
- The power-to-weight ratio is very good, and the car performs really well.

The negatives of the MS3:
- The pedals are a little offset to the side (left for me because it's a LHD).
- The wind deflectors are a little too low for me.
- The car's sensitivity to crosswinds, especially if the tires are overinflated.
- The center tunnel presses against the side of my hip, which is unpleasant.
- MS3 sales aren't taking off. Is this an opportunity or a risk to keep an MS3 in the future?

In conclusion, I really like the look and sound of the old MTW.
But I much prefer the comfort, performance, and reliability of the new MS3.
