For context Ian's response to my WTB a MOG registration post. Discussion moved here so everyone who wants to can post a comment: My advice: save your money and don't bother.  I once popped my head above the parapet with this online survey: The word "MOG". A decade later, I haven't changed my opinion about the word but am passively tolerant. Normally! However, I'm currently looking to change my Morgan for a newer model and have found several with "MOG plate included" ... a benefit that typically comes at a £1k-£2k premium! I intend to transfer my current dateless (and decidedly non "MOG") plate to the car I eventually buy so these MOG registered examples are not looking good value to me. Just my opinion, of course.

Of course I respect your point of view Ian, and understand that your thinking is perhaps in relation to the history and heritage of the marque and that as such it deserves respect. On the other hand some folk like to personalise their treasured possessions by giving them names, though I must admit to having valued many machines i never felt so attached as to feel the desire to give any a name, well at least not one I could use in polite company...(-:
OK, so I admit that that I have a couple of personalised plates, only one of which I purchased and that is on the...err...Mog..(-: At the time of purchase it had a personalised plate on it which I did not want, though it`s original plate had a 1986 suffix which I thought looked a tad out of place, so i purchased a three letter three number reg, which fitted my name, without the need for any imagination...I would have really liked to have had the plate made up in pressed aluminium in black and silver to complete the pseudo Vintage look I desired....Being a law abiding sole I stuck with the unfortunate reflective plates.. I also have to admit to even contemplating replacing the dashboard with an engine turned alloy unit to add to the fakery, should I hang my head in shame...?
My old Mog is not a Vintage Bentley such as the one I followed while m/cycling, and thinking I want some of that. But being well outside my budget, I quickly came to the idea that a Morgan could fill the bill, and I am very pleased to declare that now over 20 years later it still does, I also have to admit that I even feel a degree of affection for it.... but not enough to givee it a name, even though it carries mine...(-:

I've had discussions with the Mrs about this.
I previously had a personalised plate on my Jag (my initials) but nothing since. I've toyed with getting a 'CWP' reg for my Mog (Grandads initials) but my Mrs is of the opinion 'why spend money on something that you get for free' and over time, I've come round to her way of thinking.
I have an old Uni mate called Morgan, and everyone calls him Mog, so not unique to the car world.

Ian, I'd say two things...
Firstly, I prefer Morgans with the vinyl plate on the wing, rather than the centrally mounted plate on a plinth. In going this route, I personally think the portrait style (square) plate tends to look better with five or six digits. This brought me to MOG because whilst you can have five/six random characters have the bottom, or top, line reading MOG just looks aesthetically pleasing to me. The other option is TOK but this isn't as relevant but the argument I posed above does stand for it.
The second point is that I personally like a plate that means something to me and most people probably wouldn't 'get' (obviously MOG isn't that). I have a plate that is just that style, which was on my Red and Black two-tone Roadster, that always used to make me smile but I think many people wouldn't make the logical jump as to the meaning. I have a similar plate in mind if a MOG one doesn't come up and again, it is a vague reference but not blatantly obvious. However, in both cases (my existing plate or the one I like but haven't bought from the DVLA), they don't suit the vinyl wing mounting and need to be in-line on a regular style plate.
As for personalised registrations as a whole, my view, as with most things is: each to their own. Your car, if it makes you happy, spend your money how you see fit.

This is a good point and where I agree with that sentiment is when the plate is car specific. If you can only use a plate on one car and have no plan to move it to another, I'd want to spend a lot less (or nothing) on a registration. However, if the plate can be moved from car to car, well then that spend gets amortised (using man-logic) across all those vehicles it has been on.

I once had L800 MOG on a +8 and have P911 FKR on the Aston.

We have both sets of initials on a cheap plate on the Morgan.
In a moment of frivolity, I bought HO55 BAY for the Disco, I’m pretty certain to never get my money back on this one - but I don’t care.

I used to own S800 MOG.
I sold it and in conversation, the buyer confirmed that he was also attending the Le Mans Classic that year.
As we approached Portsmouth Ferry Port, I noticed right behind us, a green 4/4 with the plate S800 MOG.
That coincidence was the start of our friendship with Jays.
My 4/4 has an old Devon plate - YDV 819.
I also own, on retention, V2 NUT which was fitted to both my Guzzi and later on my Ducati.
