In the UK about the only place that you could get your M3W unlocked ECU mapped easily was at Krazy Horse when Dan Sim worked there and he did the dyno runs. That option disappeared several years ago when Dan left KH and was not replaced. I suppose the market for M3W ECU mapping dried up, as production ended and most who were going to change their engine spec had done so.

I was wondering if anyone had their M3W run on a dyno anywhere other than KH and if so what sort of numbers did they end up with? Most Stage 1 M3W's seem to have been about 90 hp and 100 ft lbs torque and Stage 2 around 100-105 hp and 110-115 ft lbs on the KH dyno, those being corrected crank figures. I imagine that all the dynos are calibrated regularly and those figures will be about the same for M3W's run on other dynos ???

Early info about the X-Wedge and its potential say that 135hp should be easily obtainable but that it will be limited by emission regulations. Has anyone had a set up that maybe just went for power?

For info the M3W ECUs were fully locked after 2017 as part of the EU4 regulations and as I understand it even MMC didn't have unlock codes for these.

Garage 56 and M3WServices offer a mappable Emerald ECU which comes with a tried and tested M3W map.

I did drive the KH Stage 3 development car with the big bore engine and an estimated 120 -125 bhp. In the dry on warmed up tyres it readily span it's back wheel in third and whilst a hoot to drive I would be very very nervous of using something like that on a cold, wet winter's day!

If of any interest my M3W has the S&S Stage 2 kit and Roller Rockers fitted by Oakmere, was rolling road set in Mid Glamorgan and produced 148hp at the flywheel at 5682 rpm and 160ft ib. I tried to attach the print out but system say file too large?

Thanks for the info HIND. This was partly why I asked if anyone had any dyno figures for their M3W on a dyno other than the Krazy Horse one, particularly as S&S said themselves that 135hp should be easily obtainable. Chris99 mentions, Krazy Horse's own Stage 3 car "only" made 125hp on their dyno......although it sounds like a bit of a beast to drive. I remember seeing it at Shelsey Walsh hill climb and it was a handful.

My car, also Stage 2 with roller rockers, was recently set up on a dyno in the Midlands and (to my surprise) recorded figures closer to HIND's car than the "normal" range of Krazy Horse. The dyno operator said that it had been recently calibrated and should be accurate. All academic as I am fairly sure that they all run within a narrow band for the same tune.

Rolling road output figures are notoriously wrong in their calculated outputs.
I can't see 140 + bhp being attained on these engines with just different cams and an unlocked ECU.
I would expect around the 100-110 bhp mark.
Only real way to confirm figures is to put an engine on a dyno. Has anybody put an X wedge on a dyno?

Just to clarify, the KH car had a big bore kit, 569 cams and larger throttle body. At the time I drove it it had not been setup on their dyno (as it was after dyno Dan had left) but was running default ECU settings for the modifications. 125bhp was Sales Dan's estimate and was probably lower than what it was actually achieving. Also worth noting KH figures are at the wheel

The KH figures I quoted at the start are the Crank calculated figures from my runs on their dyno, not the Wheel figures that are usually about 10 - 13 hp/lbs ft down on the Crank numbers. The other (higher) dyno figures I recently got also had a Wheel/Crank difference of about the same, not much discrepancy there, just the actual outputs recorded.

Have you similar dyno figures to KH from a dyno in France Stevo666? As virtually all the dyno work on the M3W was done at KH we have always accepted that those figures are correct but are they? As I said before, all rather academic as KH no longer do dyno runs and I guess all X-Wedge engines run within a few hp of each other for a given state of tune.

Never had a dyno run here in France. Just was interested if in the early days of the 5 speeder whether anyone actually had an individual engine dyno'd, even perhaps a stock engine? Would probably have to have been carried out by a motorbike engine builder rather than a car engine builder as the setting up on a dyno would have been quite different?

Given the use of the X-Wedge by the US custom bike industry, perhaps someone there ran an engine on a dyno??
