Compare the two TSMs...new one on the left, old one on the right. The version on the label is the same. Is the blacked-out number and the two-digit number in the lower right of the label the month and year the TSM was manufactured? The old TSM is from a 2018 M3W and the new one was purchased in April 2025.

Basically yes, the one on the right was made in July 2018, the left one November 2024, both (allegedly) version 4 rev 04

The same Co made various modules for the Trad 4 Wheelers, and they have the same label style

Hopefully the newer TSM will hold up a bit better, but that's probably being overly optimistic.

The change in label was probably due to the introduction of the EU-4 M3W in 2017 which has a 14 pin TSM.

Unfortunately I doubt the inherent design flaw will have been fixed which allows a voltage spike to short out some internal components and then back feed power to the ECU. If/when this happens symptoms can vary from loss of indicators on one side to being unable to stop the engine, even by taking the key out. Then when you do stop it by stalling it then it won't restart until you replace the TSM.

For non EU-4 cars from around 2013/4 onwards with 18 pin TSMs there is an upgraded module which prevents a voltage spike doing any damage and also provides the capability to vary the timed cancellation of the indicators. As a bonus it also provides a voltage check. These were developed by Alister Watt as a research project which went into limited production. Under the banner of the MTWC Touring Group I have funded 2 batches and currently have two remaining for sale at cost (£90+p&p).

When these are gone he has the parts to assemble another 5 or so given enough orders so PM or email me if you are interested.
