Thanks Clemens.

I’ve also added some extra detail below:
You need to remove the four lower bolts that secure the bottom edge of the panel.
Then on the top edge (move the hood well away) there are about 5-6 hidden black plastic clips which hold the top edge against the frame, I’ve attached two photos below where you can see one or two of the clips, it is quite awkward to prise off but working slowly (with the paint protected!) you can use a palette knife to lever them off. I seem to recall that gently levering it to start with you can work out where the clips are located.
The whole panel, including the slots through which the safety belts travel, should then pull forward. Revealing the excess space. If you don;t have speakers then the space will be larger. It is not simple to access regularly but I’ve put the jack, warning triangle, tyre inflator, hammer, tools, etc.. all in the space (tied down with big bits of Velcro to stop them rattling).
After getting the panel free - I’ve re-fixed it in a way that is easy to open it again. On the bottom edge i’ve used 4 bolts narrower than the thread that came out, with pads on their tops — meaning you can slip them into the existing holes without having to rescrew them in (see pic). Then on the top edge I did try to put some Velcro to hold the gap closed, but frankly the clips (whilst loose) hold it in place sufficiently, especially given the hood rests on it.
Good luck!
