New one for me. Parked the beast and later came back and the shifter was not connecting or moving anything but itself. Dead beast. Luckily was not far from home so we managed to trailer it home and I will be diving in it tomorrow earliest. This is an October 2012 build and everything else has either been broken and replaced or changed out. I kow I have to remove the tranny cover, drive shaft cover to get to it. What should I look for?

As it's an early car, the gear change extension linkage will probably be broken. It unbolts from the top of the gearbox.

Most excellent. The shifter feels like it totally broke at its weakest point. A truly crap design. It will fail. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did!

It's pretty easy to eliminate the remote shifter altogether and move the shifter forward like the later cars. IIRC you only need the top pivot plate from Mazda. Console will need mods, of course.

I gave my shifter extension to a guy (in Ohio?), as he wanted a spare. Perhaps he still has it and will see this post and offer it up.

Spent the morning removing stuff to just get to the shift linkage thing and removing it. Totally confirmed the break is exactly where predicted to be. Took it to a local welder to be done, who took one look at it and shook his head. It looks like it was designed to break there. A simple fix that I will pick up in the mornng and put back in its place.

On another note, the job was turned down by some one capable but unwilling to do it due to liability issues!

They were worried about liability? That's funny. The whole freaking machine is a liability. Part of the charm... laugh2

The liability thing took me by surprise as well. I had to stifle a big laugh. The goddam Blau Beastie has tried to kill me any number of times without shame.

I will try to post pix of the fix before it gets encased and mounted. It had been welded on the end of the shaft when newly assembled and I really don't understand why it was not totally welded as it will be. This issue would have never come up then.
