Came across this old Bentley while wandering the back streets around Spitalfields this weekend. Initally attracted by the patina, but then noticed the lead hanging out the back.......

The 'plug' was in the old filler cap location so assumed they'd had a conversion.

If not to supply a Ctek, then perhaps the more likely option is to have converted it to full EV using any of the many Tesla/EV`s that are written off with little or no real damage, such are the insurance industries evaluations relative to EV claims etc.

Found this vid which might be of interest....?

Who pays the insurance when I trip over the lead?

It is partially covered to protect the lead but it still remains a hazard on the foot path. The least he could have done would have been to run it up high across to the light pole and then down to the car.

There can be no doubt that EV is far more suited to those with a driveway, but the main thing is to educate ones self to the evolutionary process we are exposed to and consider the many and varied ways in which they might affect us.... For charging leads across pavements, perhaps think pot holes in the roads and resultant damage Vs claims...?

There's a company called Kerbo Charge that specialises in installing kerbside charging, running power from inside your home. It requires local government approval, which mine refused to give, but I know that an increasing number are willing to approve it (e.g. Milton Keynes, Reading, Durham, Nottinghamshire, Cornwall and, most recently, Southampton).

My council said, and I quote:

Due to the potential risks associated with unattended trailing cable across footways, it is current Council policy that we do not permit trailing of cables over pavements. This includes the provision or installation of either gully based or overhead gantry systems. Section 178 of the Highways Act provides that no one shall place cables across the highway without the highway authority's consent, and section 162 provides that a person who places wire or other apparatus across the highway in such a way as to cause a danger to users is guilty of an offence and liable to pay a fine. Therefore, this means the Council is not in a position to approve the running of any wires or cables across any of its footways. This extends to wires or cables covered by a heavy-duty cable covering, set in a gully or on an overhead gantry system.

Should any person decide to go against this advice the Council will not be held liable for any claims of injury resulting from such action, with responsibility being solely that of the vehicle owner.

With trenches and overhead gantries, I wonder if there might be an emergent problem of people having an increased expectation that the road outside their house is somehow 'theirs'?
