Despite charging periodically, the Battery on my 2019 Plus 4 GDI died over winter. I fitted a new one today and the car starts and runs ok but has left me with the fuel gauge reading full and the engine management light on. I’ve seen reference to these problems in other posts related to changing batteries, will this require a trip to the dealer to reset or is there a DIY fix?

I would disconnect battery for say 30 minutes. Whilst waiting reseat the 80 amp fuse in one of the two red positive cables near battery location. When reconnecting battery terminals ensure the positive is fully on and tightened first then firmly add the ground negative cable and tighten. There is no battery reset procedure for your car. The adaptive ECU mapping will be re-learnt but that will happen automatically by normal driving. The clock will obviously need re-setting and any radio stations reset if car radio fitted.
If the MIL light doesn't extinguish after a day or so of driving, an OBD2 Bluetooth dongle paired to a matching app on your phone can read the fault code that triggered it and allow reset with some apps. Otherwise a dealer will. The code would hopefully indicate where the problem is if it persists.

I had this issue, and after trying all sorts of remedies it was only the dealer that could reset the fuel guage using Morgan specific software.

Many thanks for your advice Richard. I followed this procedure, disconnecting for half an hour and taking the fuse out and on reconnecting the battery the engine management light is no longer on and the fuel gauge now working normally. I didn’t need to plug in the OBD2 reader. Maybe I got lucky but it’s probably saved me a couple of hundred quid and half a day travelling to the dealer!

A quick follow up on this thread - I had to replace the original Banner battery on my 2017 Plus 4 and suffered the EML coming on and the fuel gauge not working (showed empty, with the orange warning light on). Following Roger's experience I tried the "disconnect-for-half-an-hour" method and it worked, much to my delight. I just removed the negative lead, didn't bother with any fuse removal/reseating, as that would have involved more work removing the parcel shelf and tool tray.
