Yes my cx is the same. When the "technicians" at central morgan serviced it pre collection they managed to achieve 5 of 4. To me overfull but MMC told it was fine. With this year's service it is back to 4 of 4 i.e full.

I think a dipstick at BMW designed it. Absolutely! Fortunately my MINI still has the old mechanical measuring stick

My 2008 Morgan Plus 4 has a speed sensor connected to the gearbox. After 74000 km it has failed so that the speedometer does not work. The speed sensor is no longer available so I will have to "upgrade" to a wheel speed sensor as used on later models. I remember cheap cars from the seventies (citröen 2cv and citroën gs) running for hundreds of thousands kilomrters with mechanical speedometers without any problems. I am not sure that evolution always is for the better.

I didn't realise that dipsticks are endangered. It's lunacy.

I didn't realise that dipsticks are endangered. It's lunacy. They are. And it is. And the automated systems that enable you to check the oil level are often so convoluted and obstructive that, when in a hurry, people will just give up.

Yes it takes a goodly few minutes to get a reading. The other strange one on a CX is there are to rad coolant expansion tanks made of ali woth no sight glass. The cap on one on mine practically fouls the bonnet hinge and and I have made up a dip stick to test the level.

On my car the oil pressure guage often gives readings that must be erroneous despite having a good oil level. Either a poor sensor or a bad connection somewhere. I just ignore it.

A quick online search revealed the following AI quote “Manufacturers are increasingly phasing out dipsticks, citing improved technology and efficiency as reasons”.
An example amply demonstrating common sense has left the building.
