We went out for a b road spin on friday all very sedate normal pot holes and parked back in the garage in the late afternoon. Yesterday being a scorcher we decided on a run around the elan valley. Once on the dual carriageway I noticed the car slightly pulling to the left need the tracking doing so i thought, upon entering a roundabout I filtered to the left but the car went straight on with a car now on my outside we nearly collided. When leaving the rounabout the same thing happened with a massive amount of play in the steering before take up. I decided not to risk the dual carriageway going home we branched off and did a nail biting 20 mph all the way home like driving a front wheel drive car on marbles. jacked the car up this morning expecting something seriously broken or loose cant see anything obvious will ring Mark at the factory monday morning before i get it put on a proper lift for inspection. As i say very weird expected to see something broken ....Em

Are the locking nuts for the track rod ends loose. On my car I bought at 1800 miles they had not been tightened. I am guess over time the tie rod would come loose.

Crikey, thats not good!! Sounds a very unusual fault.. Just an off the wall idea but is there any up and down slop on the steering wheel, it hasnt come loose on its spline has it, or any other splined connections between the steering wheel and the rack. I havent got my car here to look at, but is there any UJ's or clamped spline joints between the steering column and the rack, if one had come loose it might explain your symptoms.??..
With the wheels straight ahead is the steering wheel still centred.. ??

It will be very interesting indeed to see what caused it. I would think the factory will want it back if you dont see the fault..

There are splined joints on the shaft to the rack. If you have wires there is also a bolt on adaptor plate for the splined hub.

900 mile trip...!!! Jeez, I might have thought any local or mobile mechanic might be able to diagnose the cause of play in a steering system in short order... Whatever... hope you get it sorted soon..

It will be up and back to Malvern twice and then also drive the Mog back to sunny Pembrokeshire. Agree about the local mechanic the plates under the car need to come off for access. It might well need parts been down this road before at least being such a serious issue and it being an early car I know the job will be done correctly. A pain in the arse but there you go. And James thank you for the offer ugly cars and not a real morgan and those Clarence headlights never liked them........Em
