Just heard of a big fire at the old airfield at Bicester Motion and sadly two firefighters have lost their lives.

And a member of the public too, according to the BBC

The HSE will be all over it because the unit was being refurbished - I hope the M&E subbies had a hot work permit

Likely wont matter. As the HSE explained it to me when one of my subbies was on life support " if anyone dies you go to court". Whether you are found guilty of something is a different issue and one for the court to decide.

Spot on.

One life lost let alone more is a far bigger issue than any museum - the waffle of apportioning blame is shameful and "Noise" from those with no real life values soapbox

RIP those blue light heroes and the member of the public that have sacrificed their lives for a "Museum" mad2

I've resisted commenting as it was my line of work and in my county.
I did not know the people involved.
I've spoken to some who were there.
It is a shocking tragedy and a total waste of lives.
Bizarrely, some old colleagues I've spoken to said that they never really contemplated the possibility of dying at work...... which I find odd..... perhaps it was a coping mechanism.

The job by its very nature is inherently dangerous.

The mantra used to be:- we will risk our lives a lot in a calculated manner to save saveable life, we will risk our lives a little to save saveable property, we will not risk our lives at all to save lives or property which are already lost.

I remember during the Fireman's Strike the Fire Chief giving us a very similar talk, my greatest respect to all Fire Fighters and thoughts to those lost.
