I think there are tensioner parts to the bowden cables at each wheel. I'm sure someone will confirm that

I detached both cables at the hub and worked the auto adjuster by hand so they were at the lowest point, reattachment was a struggle but it does seem to have made a difference.

Our 2020 Plus Six has a single adjuster in its cable, it is a semi balancing inner cable, that is, it connects to each rear caliper handbrake arm and over a pulley on the rear of the handbrake lever. The outer cable has the tension adjustment a couple of feet along its length from the rear caliper on one side ( cant remember which ). I have not had to re-tension our handbrake cable yet, but I have covered the adjuster area with self amalgamating tape to keep any moisture out of the inner. I also grease the exposed cable ends at the caliper operating arm.

I recall several owners complaining of poor handbrake on the early CX models. One even failed its first MOT due to ineffective handbrake. Looking back through posts, lots of complaints but no one ever seemed to have come back to publish a solution!

Our 2020 cars handbrake was originally not great, it worked but with little bite. We had a lot of rear brake issues over 12 months, from semi seized calipers to an annoying rattle/knock in their area. Many things were checked and one disk replaced. In the end the complete set of rear calipers and their mountings were replaced.. This completely fixed eveything. The dealer did say that when they compared the original calipers with the replacements the originals seemed to be not so well made??. I have also noted that the caliper brake arms are at slightly different positions when the handbrake is on, now considering that both calipers are new(ish) and the disks are not worn I would expect the arms to be at the same position, I can only assume that there is a semi auto adjustment system in the handbrake mechanism in each caliper, as the handbrake operation is integral to the unit. I have looked for a Eng drawing of the caliper to try and work out its handbrake operation and how ( if possible ) to adjust and de adjust it , but so far no luck.

My MY23 handbrake is still not great. Attempts at the dealer to improve it have not worked. As it's still under warranty I will discuss it at the next service in a few weeks. This will include getting it done by the factory if necessary under warranty. It's an auto so the Park setting alone is not the way to go. The lack of mechanical handbrake means the pawl mechanism in the box is under unecessary stress and when MOT is due there is a strong chance of failure to pass. I have tried keeping the pedal pressed hard before engaging the handbrake but that doesn't improve it. There is movement of the cable/lever into the caliper and there doesn't appear to be any fouling of the external spring to interfere with movement. Dave, your comments about replacing calipers and mounts seems a good route.
