Ian - A salutory thought - My wife is a pretty good driver but refuses to drive the Morgan as she says I would be really cross if she scratched it - If anything happened to me I would be really sad to miss the Morgan trips with what are now my best friends!

Thanks for all well wishes. It's so easy to drive as a default and often the "MrsX" is happy to go along with that.

As someone said above ^^^^^^^..the experience of a Morgan is the same, even as a passenger. If you don't arrange that contingency while you can, you may lose that opportunity.

It's just another car. OK, MrsW found the clutch heavy, and the bottom pivot pedals strange, and also the fly off handbrake weird, but she managed OK.

If you have an auto, there really is no excuse. And we are all getting older and when it happens, it happens, and then you deal with the fallout.

I never thought I would see those very prophetic words.....'just another car'.

In truth it is, I'm looking at the increasing choice in very savoury high performance EV's for that eventual next stage in our driving experience, where automation makes life sometimes easier and potentially extends our driving lifespan.

Where we live in the NW the M6 is our major trunk road to get anywhere. Almost daily there is a serious accident between M61, M6 and M55 all heading for Blackpool and the Lakes, often leading to major delays or the motorway is closed diverting traffic to the likes of the A6 through Lancaster, killing any thought of alternative routes. So much so the Transport Dept is now looking at options, most likely traffic calming, but there is no getting away from the sheer density of traffic being experienced on that section of the motorway and the rising number of serious accidents and deaths resulting.

We got caught up in one delay recently on the M6 near home coming back from Malvern and after an hour and half of clutch dipping as we inched along, I couldn't drive the Morgan for about a fortnight as my left leg ached right up into my hip socket. If Sue had to take over, I know she would have struggled with the heavy clutch before too long. Life hands you a set of cards and you have to learn how to deal with it. Increasingly, that why I drive Sues auto for longer journeys and use the Morgan for local trips, but it seems a bit of a waste of what would otherwise be the case if it wasn't for reliance on the M6 to get anywhere.......especially when alternative routes are jam packed with traffic as the M6 is now almost closed daily or subject to lengthy delays eg 10 hours recently, during the weekends and the summer period. and I wouldn't want to be caught up in the Morgan in one of those regular events.

I don't know your car and maybe the clutch is cable operated. If hydraulic, you could always use a remote servo mounted anywhere.

People have mentioned removing the clutch return spring, I've yet to investigate further, trouble is you get a muscle memory ache for quite some time after and now I've found that side of the seat cushion becomes uncomfortable before too long. Time will tell.

One thing I will say in the Morgan's favour and very reassuringly the water temp stayed amazingly cool under the circumstances and the heater was switched to cold as it was quite a warm/hot day.

John, not difficult to remove the clutch pedal spring, you can even ease it off with some mole grips for a 'test' (brake shown but just to show how it hooks over the back)
