There was a great article about Chinese car central screens suddenly showing adverts.
So. 1. Everything goes to electric. 2. All switches are rounded up and put on the central telly 3. Thousands of new functions are added in sub-sub-sub menus. 4. Then you put adverts on which block access for 20 seconds at a time.
Next will be if you like "steering" then you might like "indicator" (unless it's an Audi of course ) which will move into if you like "braking" then can we sell you a monthly subscription to "brake lights".
Cultural standards are so varied, expectations so different that what is perfectly reasonable to one might be nuts to another!
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
You Tube is getting worse at muliple adverts, and all I do apart from "blocking" and skip, I don't listen to any, because none are of value, especially betting.
While I was in the MRI scanner, between songs were adverts. Really?

But this was not in a Youtube screen, it was the central screen on a car.
Whilst it was being used as a car with speedo and action buttons!
At least it was only on startup, not yet mid journey, but that is probably not far away. Imagine you are using the reversing camera function which is showing on the main screen and it flips up an advert.
Give them an inch.....

Alistair, to late, to late is the cry from a world where advertising provides free access to so much of the information and entertainment we expect to have free access to...?
As for Chinese EV advances this circa 20 min vid might be thought to be worth watching...?
As obnoxious as ads on your car screens are, I find the 'subscription model' for functions equally, if not more, annoying.
Some car makers have mooted (not sure if any have implemented it!) that they would like to move to a commercial arrangement where most cars come will all the options (heated seats, for instance) and the owner pays an annual subscription to 'activate' the option. So the car will have the hardware installed from new but you will only be able to access it by paying an annual subscription. I can see things like 'active cruise control', parking cameras, parking sensors, etc, falling into this new form of motoring.

First time I read of this was indeed related to BMW relative to switching on or off the functionality of "extras" dependant on rental agreements....? I regularly get upgrade offers from Tesla all available to be programmed in remotely. Technological advance brings with it a whole new world of possibilities. ???
The annoyance the 'Driving Assistance' is causing my Nephew in his big VW pickup once it hits rural roads ... I reckon he'd pay £35 a monthe to have it removed! ....🙂
It's downright dangerous on the narrow country roads that make up most of his driving ... and you can't just disable it ... you have to go through multiple screens and taps every single time you drive the thing (presumably so VW lawyers can say you deliberately decided to do without it every single trip if something happens)
