The year is 2007. I'd been the owner of a Rover engined, connaught green long door +4 for a year or so. After being caught in a sudden torrential downpour on the way to Mog 07 at Goodwood it was decided that an easy up hood was worthwhile, plus the fixed back seats were a pain and painted wires looked a bit sad....
After some negotiations...... the senior financial controller concluded that I could buy a new Morgan.....
We specced up our perfect car with Phil at Allon White, a Royal Ivory 1.8 duratec engined 4/4 with black leather +++. After a couple of visits to the factory to watch it being built It was collected just before Christmas 07.
Owing to the hectic nature of my life at the time and my assurance to the boss that if the money was needed for something more important I'd always sell my toys, the 4/4 was sold after 12 months.... What followed was a string of Morgans as and when finances allowed, but I always said that if my 4/4 ever came back up for sale I'd buy it......
Fast forward to 2 weeks ago....... By chance I happened to have a late night look at Autotrader. Bloody hell.....my old car was for sale.....it was the first time I'd seen it for 17 years...... it was definitely it......!
So, I called the seller the next morning, arranged to go up the same day, and bought it on the spot.......🤷🏻♂️
I'm going back up to the Wirral tomorrow morning to collect it and drive it back home.......🥳
It's probably not the 'normal' thing to do, I'm positive I could have bought lots of other cars which are 'better'.......but..... I always wanted to have it back and I'm fortunate enough to be able to do it now.....even if the timing could have been a bit better.... but........It is, thankfully, a buyers market at the moment so I'm pleased with the price....😁

Well done Julian. I think I'd probably have my first Morgan back again too.

Well done Julien, I wish I could find a couple of my cars I never should have sold.

I can well understand your approach. I have already sold vehicles back to previous owners twice, once a 1928 Indian Scout 101 and once a 1994 Ural motorcycle with sidecar. Both were overjoyed.
I'm just as sentimental about it as you, but I do it a little differently, I don't even sell my newly acquired 4/4. The best way to get a classic car is to buy it new and keep it.

Nice one. A couple of years ago I saw advertised the first new Morgan I'd bought in 2001. But the price couldn't be agreed...but I fully understand your action. Keep it this time, even if you have to hide it from SWMBO Nick
