They've been doing with some things for a few years now. In 22 I bought a new Peugeot 208 tin top. The trim spec I bought had the sat nav included. But I found in the small print that this was only for four years, then I'll have to pay. I doubt Peugeot were the first. No adverts yet though!

The only way to get change is not to buy cars with such stupid and money making grifts.

Most of this stuff you don't need anyway.

My Kia has so many gadgets, gizmos & gimmicks that need to be turned off each time the car is started it's like having to do a pre-flight check. I want a switch that defaults everything permanently to "off" . I want to drive the car - not have it drive me (nuts!!).

Yes, same here. Most of my daily driving is on country lanes and I often have to battle with the steering wheel to keep out of the way of oncoming vehicles. Potholes are even more of an issue now than before, you try to gently drive around one and the damn car swerves you back in again for a direct hit.

Which? magazine did an article earlier this year "Is technology ruining new cars?"

"There are four key ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) legally mandated on new cars in the EU as part of the General Safety Regulations (GSR and GSR II). While the UK isn’t part of the EU, the rules apply to Northern Ireland and will soon be adopted in Great Britain. In any case, most UK cars already use software designed to work both here and in the EU.

GSR and GSR II require intelligent speed assist, driver drowsiness and attention warning, autonomous emergency braking and emergency lane-keep assist. The latter two are required to kick in only to avoid critically dangerous situations. All four must be activated by default whenever the car starts, so even if you turn it off on one journey, it will be on the next time you set off."

We have a new Chinese 4x4 pick up at work. Took it out for 5 minutes the other night and it gave me a headache! To many warnings going off all the time. Give me a old car anytime. Why do I need a warning for to say I'm reversing.

I wouldn't worry about video ads over here, in China and Japan it is allowable to watch video and TV in the cars even on the go, this is disabled in UK (not sure about whole of Europe but think it's the same)

As for the assistance systems and warnings, they want people out of private car ownership anyway, from the responses on this topicI think it's working :-)

Just having another browse of those BMW options. Who could resist this one: BMW IconicSounds Sport
"Transform driving into a more intense experience. Your BMW plays the engine sound to match your driving mode inside your vehicle."
£99 well spent!

This is positively frightening. Like you, nearly all our driving is on country roads and thank goodness all the Mini does is put a slight vibration through the steering wheel if you cross a white line without indicating.

Another reason to keep the car if this level of interference is typical on other vehicles.
