A few years ago a customer of mine asked if I could take his boat from our local Marina to a harbour and recover it on a trailer, it had a 275 verado outboard on the back. At 23ft long it was a nice package with all the posh gauges and a system matched flow meter, as i left the marina at a jogging pace the meter showed 3 gallons an hour which I thought was very reasonable for such a package. After about 10 mins I opened the throttle fully it projected me to over 50mph which in water terms is extremely fast and the flow meter 28 gallons an hour. Bonkers and any marina in the uk you will see boats with two fitted. Makes Morgan motoring look very cheap. Must dig out my oars.

As you are rather repetitively and boringly reminding me when I introduce some topic other than Morgan cars(tenuous link to your cars lump) - just a little reminder for you about glass houses and stones - boats bore the arse off a lot of people myself included (unless it's J class or Riva) and I live 2 miles from one of the larger money pits of plastic in South Devon rofl

I agree the CX has had far too much crap spoken about it whereas it is on the whole an amazingly dynamic machine and when your mechanical interest or body has given up the Auto is the way.

A Lambo or V8 in a Riva has to be one of the purist things to feast your eyes on.

I personally am of the view that the Latin input is heading upwards but that was always going to have to happen, when they take the quality level of finish and detail up with it they will have arrived, maybe in a couple of years.

They will get there I have faith in MMC still guru

A Riva is on my shopping list for when the rising sea levels allow me to moor up to my bedroom window, Might as well do it in style.

On a perfect day you would get in your Morgan Chinos deck shoes Blazer with the brass buttons and drive down to your reserved parking at the lake to get on your Riva. The reality is your wife drops you off your arse is hanging out of your jeans and you get on a smelly little fishing boat.

Redolent of the NEW Morgan adverts then hey rofl

I am old enough to remember the advert in Motor Sport for the Plus 8

"Are you man enough" with some dark haired Judy draped over the bonnet like a lovelorn Alley cat..

…..you have a way with words …!
Still it brings back fond memories both of my first Morgan and in honesty a girl named Judy who was good ‘fun’…..and loved the Morgan. Her brother helped me repair the cars clutch/gearbox and some years later went on to buy a Morgan.

Piston speeds also feature in longevity dictated by rev range. In turn linked to stroke and rod to stroke ratio. Short stroke keeps average piston speeds down suiting high revving engines but short rods stress the piston with greater acceleration then deceleration as it passes through mid stroke, so there needs to be a balance in engine design. To limit piston stress and max instantaneous speeds some F1 engines have rod/stroke ratio's approaching 3:1 compared to modern car engines in the 1.6 to 1.8:1 range.
