ep hoping it's fake news but it would seem another part of our collective memories has left us. Perhaps like me, the "Beach Boys" formed part of our growing up and there music still brings a great deal of joy, memories of driving along the PCH1 in a red Firebird. In addition, as if this isn't bad enough "Marianne Faithful" finally checked out as well, another icon of the '60's gone. I feel quite sad today just playing "Pet Sounds", I still haven't quite got over Jhon Mayall leaving us

It’s funny you mention Brian and the Beach Boys because when we heard of his death it reminded us of our first trip to the USA and California.
It was 1979 and my first holiday with a new girlfriend who became my wife ……..still is !
We were arguing which was the first song we heard on the radio in the metallic blue Firebird (or was it a Camaro?) we had hired . It was miraculously a Beach Biy song, I thought California Girls and my wife thinks it was Help me Rhonda. We have it written down in a comprehensive travel diary of that amazing trip and.car pictures but we are away so cannot confirm the song. Perhaps we did the same or a similar trip Lowebird ?
LA, up Highway 1 stopping off at various places including where Alan Alder/Ellen Burstyn film Same Time Next Year was filmed…great film pity never on TV…..San Fran, Fort Bragg, Yosemite, Death Valley Las Vegas, SanDiego and Tijuana (with the rental ) ……..don’t think we should have gone there really.
Still we can boogie on to Katy P and California GURLS !!
Peace and Love, MM

We didn't go to Tijuana, but we did go to El Paso, a bit scary if I recall, we than went on New Mexico then Texas. Yosemite was a wonderful place, didn't like San Fran too European for my taste, I much preferred L.A.
The intro to California Girls is going around in my head now, glad we did it when we were younger and carefree, it may be a little more of a worry now.

Quite right Alistair, the beeb showed his concert at glasto last night ( 2005) and I have to say, it didn't help my memories of his great music, i think all older music stars should give up once the voice goes.

Having seen Roger Daltrey (81) and Brian Johnson (77) this year, I will respectfully disagree smile smile smile

You are right Lowebird ….but only when the voice gives out. Springsteen is still great and son gone to Prague this weekend to see him .Paul Jones of The Manfreds at 83 was unbelievable a month or so back. Tom McGuinness well into his 80s was with him - great.
Macca was not good with Springsteen some years back but friends say he was OK at Liverpool . I did think Daltry had lost it but vocal coaches and healthy lifestyle in later life helps the voice . Brian I did think was not good when last in UK, seemed totally out of it….as if they wheeled him out for one last hurrah.
Old musicians really can play and sing .

Chaps, I did say if the voice goes, I'm all for the stars of our youth keeping on bringing us pleasure, I don't believe how good the Rolling Stones still are, I think they will need to be buried standing up right just to keep them still.
