My thoughts on the CX/CXV market are not dissimilar Dave.

A smaller market - which at times, Morgan themselves seem unsure as to whom to target (based on both their campaigns and brand collaborations) - coupled with an increase in price and annual changes to the models, would appear to be a play-book instigated by someone, familiar with that approach, from a mainstream maker.

To my mind, that is a mistake and I know exactly how I'd approach a challenging marketplace but... well, we know how that goes!

Some very wise words from you both there. For me if I do go the plus six route then I want one with traction control and air bags, because the earlier cars are just a bit too lively from what I’ve read.

I personally think the Morgan marketing is impressive - it’s glamorous, sexy, modern but with traditional values inferred; I tink they sell a very glamorous lifestyle; better than ANY other marque I’ve seen. But they are expensive, and Morgan now have 4-6month lead times which is significantly less than pre Covid at 3-4years or their heydays of 7years. This negatively impacts values and the fact that the main dealers have many unregistered cars available (some being MY22 cars) shows there is a serious problem.

I hope I don’t sound like I’m trying to beat prices down, because I really am not - I absolutely love Morgan; I loved my factory tour and what I believe I will be buying into; because I will buy one at some point soon, but the deal has to be exactly what I’m after.

I got a call from a friend who has a P6, he's awaiting his forth radiator and a replacement 'screen, plus they've discovered the swirlpot mounts are bust.

The parts are not ex stock & he wants a non MMC rad if possible, he lent his last burst rad to SiFab and unfortunately we know how that ended

This may have been said elsewhere, but MMC have a new radiator supply, and I'm going to choose words carefully here; in fact I'll quote the MSCC Chair:

"(Matt Hole) explained to us that after putting the new radiator structure for the pre 25 CX through the tests it will be ready for general supply in a couple of months. They will only fit this new rad when you have a rad problem. There will not be a recall.
He said they had a few already but those would be used for people with multiple failures.
He also explained they were working on a warranty for CX used cars so they were easier to sell. He recognised the loss in value of pre 25 cars and hoped this new scheme might prevent greater depreciation."

FYI - I have called one (non Morgan dealer) about an early Plus Six they are selling. He was blissfully unaware of some of the issues (brakes, rad, swirl pot etc.) the car has and was hoping his warranty would cover everything - that was ultimately his sales pitch!

Some car dealers are now buying CX models off dealer auctions like "Motorway" - the Morgan dealers are auctioning them through that site, to reduce stock levels. These dealers then have no idea what they have purchased and keep saying "but its a lovely hand built car....it was over £100k new". All true but the market and internet drums have been beating?

The car in question - I rang about - was purchased in the mid £70k's and is now up for low £60k's after being orginally advertised at £77k, 16 months ago.....

The issues are not helping the resell value of the CX, the trade now are latching on, they are getting a reputation!

Regardless of this however, I am in the market for a Plus Six and if I can sell the BMW Alpina i currently have (in the For Sale section on this site) - I will purchase a Plus Six!!

I dont understand why the prices at so decreasing in uk. The plus six and plus four are very better than the trad. The brakes problem has been solved and the radiator will be changed under warranty. The early plus six are tricky to drive without esc but the driver should know that.

The Plus Six and Four are massively more modern than the Trads, but don't confuse that with desirability.

The appeal of a Trad is because it is what it is. The CX cars lack that appeal, at a much higher cost. If this was so simple, the Trad owners would be lining up at the dealers to change into a CX. Most are not. That's why MMC misjudged the market. They don't care about Trad owners and buyers, because they play hide and seek with a ghostly cohort of wealthy mid 30's with shedloads of money. That's not playing out that well.

Yes i can understand the appeal of the trad. But the plus four and plus six are still looking and still handmade likes the trad. I had 3 trad before the plus four , if i had still my 2004 4/4 i would not be autorized to enter Brussels.
