Three years , plus 6, 30 plus thousand miles, drop dead gorgeous looks, insanely fast, eats tyres on rears, no LSD. Most days winter or summer, enjoy the fast drive, and you can make your own drama, hitting the ton up every day you drive it, thanks to living Rural. One radiator replaced, brakes sorted, nothing else mechanically went wrong. Never used any oil. Trip to South of France twice, aircon a godsend.
Hard top and soft top leaked, under carpets front and back regularly had to have mould wiped off. You catch pneumonia from the side door draft in winter. The heater only keeps your left knee warm. The windscreen had also been replaced, and a few times the wiper arms flew off . The inner plastic wing protectors all fell off. Apparently these bad things were due to me driving it to much.
The ugly bit was, I couldn’t sell it easy. The factory told me they didn’t want it. 3 Morgan dealers said too many miles, chipped paintwork, few scuffs on Black wheels. Petrol cap and door surrounding all pitted. The full service history meant nothing. Even experimental talk , saying I’d be interested in a Supersport, but I need a PX price yielded nothing. In the end, as I wanted out of it, as I fear the body is falling apart, I took 42k. It’s gone, I won’t have another. They are just not built for the stick I want to give it. They are just not good enough yet for a daily.
I admit that driving it all year, 10k per year maybe could have been foolhardy. But I don’t, and can’t afford a 80k car just to sit around in garage. It was a main car to be used. Gone back to a robust German sports car now, for all year use. I’ll miss the Morgan for sure. But owning one is to much hard work for me going forward.

I sometimes think it’s a lottery whether you end up with a Morgan that will last as well as a “normal” car!

Great appraisal, with all the decades of knowledge as to what corrodes and what needs to be kept an eye on with the trads -we are early to build up a picture of the same with the CX fleet.

Had my Plus 6 three years+ with one rad replaced but not had same problems - still on same tyres, no leaks etc.
Doing 2 to 3k pa though - they are better as a fair weather toy than a daily ride.

Interesting insight and a good reflection on the whole car ownership experience.....not just the buying, using and most importantly the selling experience with a slightly higher mileage but still relatively new car. How will the dealership network react in the coming years to higher mileage CX and Supersport if they want to promote greater regular usage of their brand, beyond the high days and holidays 'toy' car..........maybe not that supportive. Which then questions how receptive the rest of the non Morgan used car trade is to truly 'used' Morgans and the potential impact on residuals, if the Morgan network only wants the 'cream' low mileage cars on their showroom floor.

Let's hope the Supersport does it better, but I'm not 100% sure, to put it mildly...! I think Morgans are not meant to be daily drivers, but that's my opinion after nearly 30 years of Morgan ownership. Our PlusFour was great fun during our last trip to France 3 weeks ago where we covered 3500 km. We ended with 2 tenaxes snapped off, hardly used the top, and if so, we did it the right way and with a delicately touch in the right order. My radiator was replaced before the tour on a regular service, it was a small leak and I did not experience any problems. A brand new PlusSix which was traveling with us, experienced several problems, the pins of the hood at the rear came completely loose and stayed in the car, one "female" Tenax fiddly, and some rain ingress. It will have the windscreen replaced, a new rear hood fixing rail is ordered, but also this car gave a lot of fun. One other PlusFour more or less faultless (except some appearing and disappearing warning lights, which now is regarded as normal by the owner) and one 42 years old Plus8 without any issues........ We drove 24.000 km in two years now in our PlusFour and many more in our 4/4 over the time. They always need some attention afterwards, not always directly, mostly it went on the list of things to fix for the next year. For everyday use, buy a Porsche, if you like them (I do like them but less as a Morgan). I experience a lot of fun of driving my Morgan(s) and the ownership and being part of the (active) Morgan community. Next week Malvern!

Hope that the weather is kind to you on your trip Rutt B. No surprise re the reliability of the old +8... (-: and I can confirm modern Porsches can also provide their problems as it seems all modern vehicles can..

A typical example of how Morgan has to measure itself against vehicles like Porsche (BMW, Audi...) now, due to the higher positioning of the brand. Customers rightly demand comparable quality for their money. And a Plus six was a lot money! And this clientele is naturally not capable of suffering and quickly switches to other brands if it cannot be satisfied.
For comparison, a Morgan +8 cost 1500 pounds in 1970 according to ChatGPT, whereas a Porsche 911 costs 8000 - 10000 pounds. No comparison would have occurred to any Morgan customer.

The comments about it not being a daily drive I agree are correct. It’s been mine for 3 years to the month. The engine and gear box are up to the job, no question. It’s the rest of the car that isn’t. I admit I was slightly perplexed that the factory, and three other dealers just didn’t want to PX it against a £115,000 super Sport. Seems to be that they obviously have a fear of the car. The one dealer said it would take £4k to prep for resale, the cracked wood that holds the hinge on drivers door was a worry. I had to prove when radiator was last done and then the bid he said would start with a three and really he didn’t want it. So I’ve got a lot out of the car, Ive had my fun, had the pain , and took the hit like a man !!
The chances of them getting repeat business from the 40 / 50 year olds like me, if they won’t PX their own brand against a new vehicle certainly narrows their business opportunities going forward.
One last thing, it was an Audi Dealership who took it in PX against an RS product. They admitted they didn’t really want it but they fudged the figure. Be interesting to see where it ends up.
