The ability and capability to tailor 'hand made' cars to eg an individual's own design, works to Morgan's advantage. Whilst reliability and quality needs to rise, its easier to achieve that with very high value, low volume production with generous profit margins.

The wealthy usually have more than enough cars in their garage to not worry too much about placing an over reliance on any specific vehicle to perform on a given day. Morgan IMHO now need to lift the brand perception even further upwards and place their product eg Midsummer at key events like Monaco Boat week ,giving it greater exposure and create greater awareness amongst the filthy rich of this hand built car..

Very interesting findings after 3 years.....and even as a perspective Plus Six buyer (I need to sell my car first) it has not put me off. Most cars at 3 years and 30k miles, need alloys, stone chips and another things attending to?

As I have access to getting cars that have minor scuffs and chips attended to, it really is not a concern. It is also good to hear that the BMW drivetrain has been 'spot-on'

If I could purchase a Plus Six with 15k miles and it was £45-47k, privately i.e., get one that a Morgan Dealer, does not want.....I would be happy, just need to shift my current toy!.

"3 years and 30k miles" ? For a spot of reality-check: tonight we took my wife's 15 year old / 136k miles Corsa to the car wash to get rid of the Sahara dust. The hand pressure wash took off some more of the rust and flaky paint. It's now worth, say, nothing, but it keeps going extremely well. My 16 year old / 21k miles Roadster is in the garage under cover awaiting another nice day for a drive. It's now worth, say, a lot less than I paid 4 years ago. Horses and courses come to mind......

I tend to keep cars for over 20 years because I chose carefully, and I'm from Yorkshire. I know plenty of people who are never happy, and chose badly. One friend changes more than my underpants, and doesn't care a jot about depreciation, and if you keep a car for 20 years plus, it doesn't matter either.

I have had my P4 CX for close to 1 year (I bought it in early July 24). 9000 miles later it is going well touch wood etc

I don't believe its' necessarily a case of choosing carefully leads to longevity in ownership for everyone. Other factors enter into the period of ownership equation when looking at ownership priorities eg finite garage space and where you live. I find once I've had my period of enjoyment, I see little point in leaving a car in the garage for the next sunny day ( when ever that arises), as generally long periods of inactivity invariably leads to more issues around reliability and degradation of the vehicle. Especially as I live in a very salty coastal environment that rusts and corrodes everything, no matter what preventative measures you take.

In less than a year I 've owned the Plus 4, despite careful garaging and cleaning I noticed rust bubbles were appearing around the wing turn indicators ,and the paint had gone thin ,at the end of the drivers wing by the rear wing which weren't there when I bought the car. When I had Harleys with the exception of 2 of the bikes which I did keep long term only to watch them deteriorate, I used to buy new in the spring and sell in the fall, as keeping over winter lead to chrome and paint either going thin / rusting. Just one of those disadvantages of a coastal environment. I work on the premise when I buy a car, the money is spent and if I get some back on the sale then it helps fund the next purchase.

I live in Lancashire and they are equally renown for their .thrift as their closest neighbours, only real difference is we live in 'red brick' houses and don't have a comparable rhubarb triangle.

All interesting comments. We have established I was an idiot for having my 6 as a daily driver. Nearly a week with out the car and I’ve put my finger on the greatest bug bare I had with it. The water ingress. Engine and gearbox brilliant, , 30 odd thousand miles in 36 month made it feel very used, loose around doors, wing gaps and rattles. Longevity did worry me some days. The fear of radiator failing in South of France ! The one thing over and above all that was after rain, be it stood or driving, under the front Matt’s were soaking wet. And the same behind the back seat and on the shelf. I’d dry the area the best I could with many cloths. But if left for a day or so , white mould would be growing all around the edges of the Matt’s under seat on on shelf. That was the main reason I couldn’t live with it as a daily. Making Morgan’s watertight is something they have to concentrate on if they aim for people to buy and use the cars more. I became nose blind to the smell. Passengers picked up on it fairy quickly. Maybe I had a bad one!! It’s such a shame. I loved the looks and the engine. Still do. I would forgo the hand built bit if a robot could put them together better. But maybe that’s me being a demanding early 50 year old.

I don't think you are an idiot at all, Jono. Expecting to be able to do 10k miles a year in a car is entirely reasonable.

In my view the fact that Morgans require a measure more hands-on maintenance is fair enough given their fundamental design and manufacture, but I find the idea that MMC is still unable manufacture a car that keeps the wet out is frankly ludicrous. They've had over a century to perfect their design, and it's not like the technology isn't available at low cost.

I don't mind the odd drip inside my 4/4, it's 40 years old, but to spend Porsche money on a Plus Six and for it still to leak is just nuts.

I think that defines me perfectly!

Let’s face it, most of us on here in 20+ years time will have wings so won’t need a car!
