Hi

We are off to France next month in the M3W and have already received lots of good advice from you all.
The intention is to take the slow way to Bordeaux via the Calais train. Should I ever venture onto the motorways does any one have experience of a toll tag to make the passing through tolls easier. The car is low and the thought of my wife leaping in and out to pay the toll, although amusing, is really not feasible.

Research shows that there are motorbike toll passes as well as car so my questions are:

1. Which is a good tag to have?
2. The M3W is a trike and therefore a motorcycle in English law but is it a motorcycle for the Toll Tag purposes?
3. Where do you place it for ease of use, be it a car or motorcycle tag. If a car tag it needs a windscreen and obviously that’s an issue🤣

Regards Andrew

Just get a standard toll tag - car type - it works fine in a 3 wheeler - you just hold it up when near the barrier and it goes beep and barrier opens - no need to affix it to the screens.
I leave mine loose in the centre console holder (3D printed - Pedro supplied).

I really wouldn't want to chance a motorbike tag as although they are classed as motorbikes in France the camera's might say NON!!

And your then stuck at the barrier......

I have a Emovis Tag and have used it on my 4/4 and my Harley Davidson, The payage seems to know what vehicle is passing through and debits your card appropriately,
In the car I stuck it on the windscreen, on the bike I just held it up high cheers

The one time I went through a manned toll booth in France I tried to pay the motorcycle/trike rate but they insisted it was a car as it had a steering wheel!

As Steve says just pay the car rate.

This is the UK site for Bip&Go, small standing charge just for the months you use it in.

https://www.bipandgo.com/en/

Whichever one you choose they all work across the whole network, Bip&Go can also be upgraded to work elsewhere in Europe too.

I've been using Bip&Go for a long time. It's free for months when the badge isn't used.
For months when it is used, a €2 fee is charged, in addition to all toll booth visits that month.
The badge also works in all parking lots that display the letter T on an orange background, including parking lots managed by Indigo.

If buying a European toll tag, be aware that some will require payment by direct debit using the SEPA system (Single Euro Payments Area). Not all UK accounts will support this. For example HSBC's Euro account does NOT. Revolut does.

Once again thanks for the info. A car tag it is then and the train has a deal that waives the joining fee of €10 and then everything else is as normal.
Just checked that the train was happy to accept the M3W as a trike and did get that confirmation. Book as a motorbike and tick the trike/sidecar option. I’m sure this must have been a discussion point at some time but nice to get the confirmation again. For some reason despite the V55 description a steering wheel does cause issues with uninitiated.

Thanks again

Andrew

If you're driving down to catch the Tunnel crossing and end up using the Dartford route it's worth setting up a Dart Charge account too, as if you go the pay on demand option and forget to settle by a set period you get an auto fine (and you may struggle to sort it on a mobile whilst in France)
