New Morgan owner here. My 2019 +4 vibrates like a bu66er on cold start, front wings rattling away. Eventually (5 minutes or so of driving) it smooths out. Is this just a case of "they all do that, Sir" or is there something amiss?

Is it misfiring? Bung a code reader on it and have a look for a P0300 series fault code. I'd be tempted to fill it with 97 Octane E5 with some injector cleaner and take it for a bloody good thrash at high revs (aka Italian Tune-Up).

I think it might be a 'new to you' car Adam? If so does it have any warranty?

How many miles has it done in the 12 months prior to you taking ownership?

If less than 200, Tim (Hamwich) suggestion is good.

Mine (2016 GDi) tends to run a bit rough on a cold start., but I have found if I keep the revs at 2000 for around 10/15 seconds after start-up it'll clear and tick over OK. Certainly doesn't take 5 minutes.

Thank you for the helpful replies:

-Tim: I'm running it on 97 and have (sorry to put it this way) wrung its little neck out quite regularly (once properly warm of course!). Very good point on misfiring, I will sort a code reader and see if that's happening.

- Rog: you are quite right, it's new to me, bought second hand from a reputable dealer so under warranty -- dealer is five hour drive away, however, so thus wondering if this is just normal cold start for a GDI in a Morgan.

- Paul: about 1000 km in the prior 12 months, so I guess on par for a Morgan. I've managed to add another 1000 in the last two weeks (hard to stay out of the thing, my wife getting a bit concerned I think...)

Thank you Alan. Could you describe "a bit rough" on your cold start, just for comparison purposes?

No need to be sorry, this is what they are for! The behaviour you describe is definitely atypical for GDI motors so I'd definitely look for fault codes, they don't always lead to the MIL being switched on.

Sound like water in the electrics or plug leads giving misfire that goes as it warms up, my S1 Roadster was a bugger for that.
I have driven a mates +4 GDI and the behavour isn't normal . It doesnt happen on my CX which has BMW GDI engine.

My CX hadn't been driven for 9 months & pinked at high throttle but clean fuel & injector cleaner helped to resolve that.
I would also add a fuel stabiliser like Stabil in case there is dross from old fuel in the tank.

Thank you Tim and John. Have just ordered a generic bluetooth code reader (ELM327, per advice elsewhere on this forum) and downloaded the Torque Pro iPhone app. Will be interesting to see if I'm getting any codes.
