If like me you might have ever been very fond of all types of Internal combustion engines from cathedral sized diesels propelling ships around the world, through to tiny units powering model aircraft flight, you might care to beam up the latest Top Gear vid on Singer..?

Can there be any left who the mention of Singer primarily causes them to think of sewing machines, as opposed to that which the Singer company engineer into aged Porsches, by way of seeking to achieve a level of automotive perfection that seems to fit this old Porsche fans ideals rather well.. Ok so the bling thing can feel a tad OTT, and would likely cause me to be over precious in terms of driving the thing on the road, or even at all.... Hmm..?

Back to engines... if you would prefer to miss the schpiel and beam into the circa 20 min vid at 7mins 27sec where the reworked flat six takes on a slightly different form having been somewhat heavily breathed upon by Cosworth, so much so that it seems almost criminal to hide it under the engine lid, much in the way I thought much the same for the early XK units with their polished alloy valve covers and black enamelled exhaust manifolds, which provided a sense of wonder to the pre teen kid I once was...!

I am not so much of a Porsche fan that I like the external appearance of the blue Porsche, and with the white wheels I think it looks almost bland.... PINK interior.. Really..! But you could twist my arm to be seen driving it..(-:

All this Porsche patter, I have got to say, The last few nights following very hot days, there was no machine I would rather have been driving than my old +8, I never gave the idea of firing up the 991 instead a second thought. Advanced engineering has it`s advantages for sure, on the other hand just cruising around countryside "B" roads rumbling along in a pseudo vintage suspended Morgan on a balmy evening was most definitely my preferred option.

If interested, I posted a pic of that run in the PRE CX section under the heading Have your Morgan today, on the bottom of page 123

Variety is the spice of life, is it not....?

Interesting that they are compression ignition diesels (can't do a spark or glow plug small enough?) as a kid we scratch built ply model boats with small diesel engines, before the days of electric spinners they were a bu66er to start with a leather pull cord wrapped around a grooved flywheel

The smallest spark-ignition engine in my collection is a replica pre-WWII German Felgiebel that I bought at auction. Champion made plugs small enough (1/4" x 32tpi) but not for those miniature engines by Ronald Valentine. Some scratch-builders do make them, a real labour of love and not always with successful results.

The Singer headlights are more attractive than the 'missing' CX ones -to me

For sure the Singer and Morgan are at entirely opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of design, build and performance, and of course price, but in terms of value for money, I leave that for you to decide, relative to enjoyment in the use and ownership experiences of your Morgan... (-:
