A quick bump on this thread.

Insurance:

I sent an e-mail to Gott and Wynne for the Morgan policies, and their response was that they have noted the file. I thought an e-mail is better to record the event,

For LV, where our VWs are insured, e-mail is probably impossible, so I rang, got straight through and related the story. LV do not require medical disclosures. They expect policyholders to follow medical advice. That was a bit of a surprise, but there you go.

DVLA is a bit more confusing. If you attempt to notify them after a stroke, you will arrive at a page, which does not allow progression, UNLESS the stroke was over 40 days ago. After my successful congnitive test, I was informed in writing that I was not required to notify DLVA.

I won't attempt to second guess the reasons why, other than to say that if there are 46,000 TIAs annually in the UK, those numbers alone would overwhelm the system when many pass within hours. But it appears that if you remain incapacitated beyond 40 days then it becomes notifiable.

Dave, thanks for flagging up the rules on this subject as we know all too well others on here have been similarly affected with a TIA.

There's more..............Clopidogrel is prescribed as the blood thinner, but at my check over yesterday, the Consultant was filling me in with more detail. This medication is inert until it gets into your liver. Your liver converts it into compounds which can then affect the blood. Research is showing that around 30% of Caucasians do not have the required gene, and so without this, Clopidogrel is not activated in the liver.

The NHS is sponsoring a review of this and the only hospital involved is at Doncaster. So yesterday I had another blood sample taken which is going to a lab in Liverpool for a genome test. If I'm one of the 30%, the answer is aspirin, 75mg.

So we'll see.

DaveW,

First and foremost, I want to express my support for what you have been going through and also for your thoughtfulness in sharing what you have learned as you deal with the fallout, which is very helpful.

But second, as a newcomer to Morgans and this forum I have the confess that the light just went on that you must be THE DaveW, as in, the person who wrote the book that has been my near-constant companion for the last four months as I have gone from knowing next to nothing about Morgans (and even less about auto mechanics), to beginning the gradual process of understanding the quirks and features of these rather distinctive machines, to considering which Morgan to buy, to finally acquiring my very own "modern traditional Morgan". It is a permanent fixture on my nightstand, and I'm fairly confident that I have the most-thumbed copy in Sweden. I'm sure you've heard this from many others, but I did want to take a moment to thank you for putting together what was I'm sure a labor of love. It is a tremendous asset to us neophytes (and perhaps even to more seasoned Morgan owners, though I wouldn't be in a position to say), and I am very grateful that your book exists in the world.

Needless to say, no commercial connection or intention here, just a heartfelt "tusen tack", as we say in Sweden.

Thank you for that, Dave. I'm on them so I shall be asking the surgery about it. My BP does seem to be OK however, last reading was 129/63.

Interesting Dave.
After my bypasses I am on clopidogrel and 75 aspirin.
I was told one works on veins, the other on arteries....which does sound odd or unlikely.
I shall ask about it.
Hope you are recovering well, mine is slow.
Nick

Thank you so much Adam for your thoughts. In 2003 I began my Morgan journey, but that took until 2008 before I bought my Roadster. It took a lot of time before I even understood the extent of what I didn't know. The long door cars have never received the level of books and interest shown by the earlier Trads before 1997.

This is where the idea of my book first began. Being hands on and active on TM certainly helped that process. What I created was everything I wish I had known in 2008, and what I had discovered over the following ten years of spannering. It wasn't meant to be a workshop manual, and the publishers were quite firm about that. But I'm very happy with how it turned out.

A second book is in process with Amberley Publishers, is more of a story book, and is with them now, but awaiting a publishing date. If you would like a signed bookmark, please send me a Private Message! thumbs

That's good numbers Bob. Mine is in the 100-125/60-80 sort of range. The limit was 140/90, but they now seem to work on 130/80. So anyone reading this, get a home monitor, and do occasional checks, because higher than 130/80 needs checking.

Good luck Nick with progressing. You may have a belt and braces approach going on. I also take Pantoprazole, 20mg, which is a stomach protector. And the statin, Atorvastatin, 80mg.

No side effects so far. The Consultant told me I had shown a fast ability to rewire my brain, but quite honestly I worked so hard on words and spelling, right from day 1. I can still sometimes find a word or spelling to be elusive.
