The reason for my problems with intermittent running on my 2002 +8 have finally been diagnosed as a rusty fuel tank, so I need a new fuel tank (keep your fuel tank brimmed and use an additive boys and girls).

Mulfab seem to be the only people now who can supply a SS tank, I have a lot of time for Mulfab in the Peter Mulberry days but I would be interested in what experiences people have had with the company since he retired.

I had my kingpins and bushes done there a couple of months back, all fine. He gave me a tour of the workshop and showed me the petrol tank manufacturing area, all looked good.

Mulfab delivered a new alloy radiator earlier this year after the original plastic radiator failed. It has worked very well during the recent heat wave.

My ali rad failed after 13 months. Mulfab said Allon White didn't fit it properly
The top bracket weld was paper thin and only full pentration at one point. I wouldn't use them again.

A friend of mine recently had a similar experience! Think a welder’s skill is down to the welder rather than who runs the company…but they come and go, so difficult to judge.

The Mulfab ones, still I believe, just weld the upper radiator support bracket to tank in a simple semi-circle. This may be adequate but in John's case the neat stack of diamonds weld only penetrated the tank for 20% of its length such that over time the localised stress ripped out the side of the tank.

Compare to my SiFab one (no longer available) where the similar mount bracket is welded to tank in an "M" pattern to spread the load.

Losing SiFab was a major loss to anyone needing Roadster 3.0L sumps, radiators, fuel tanks, and support for the Aero 8. I now realise how lucky I was because I got my Roadster sump and GDI radiator not long before Simon closed shop.

The radiator was supplied as a comprehensive kit of parts, all in sealed packs. The only mod I had to do was that although the top hose should have been cut and used again, for some reason my GDI needed a straight hose. Being me, I had a length of straight hose on the shelf. Yes, I know.

Fitting a radiator into any Morgan needs finesse. Yes it sits on rubber bobbins on each side and yes it has one on top to connect with the replacement cross-brace which has a welded bracket attached, but as the radiator will tilt backwards at the top, and because the cross-brace will rotate. you must find the sweet spot. This is where there is no obvious tension on the top bobbin. The position of the hoses will also add another layer of tension, and should be minimised. This is not so easy on the bottom hose because of cramped access. All this means when static, there is no significant tension on the mountings.

But as soon as the Morgan moves, all three mountings will twist relative to each other and this tension is not avoidable, which is why static positioning matters.

Mixed reviews about the quality hmm. Maybe I need to talk to the MMC.

I think the quality aspect needs to be taken on balance across the range of Morgan replacement parts Mulfab offer. Nothing wrong with the hard chrome kingpins and bushes they supply for example, particularly as Cain at Wolf Performance uses them.
