Just filled my need for a runabout touring toy. This is my 4th and represents great bang-for-buck value. We’re off up to Northumberland for a few days this week visiting family and the bespoke luggage that came with it was a deal clincher for SWMBO. 260bhp, normally aspirated, auto (flappy paddles) yet 38 mpg cruising. Enthusiast owned and loving cared for during its first 50k, here’s to many more under our stewardship.

Is that BMW the folding tin roof variety, if so, those and similar cars are so much more practical and usable in the increasingly wetter UK climate. You don't have to wait for a mohair hood to dry out following a shower, and a simple button tucks the hood away in the boot without getting out of the car, often on the move at lowish speeds. Roof up they are wind , water proof and a cosy place to be with the heater or air con on.

I enjoy driving Sue's SLK, did over 500 mile round trip to London the other day, it took it in it's stride and still achieved 63 mpg most at motorway speed limit with hours of driving in motorway congestion.

I wouldn't have even considered such a journey in a trad Morgan.

That’s correct, it’s pretty civilised with the roof up, though not as refined as an SLK. I’ve had two previously but circumstances dictated I get a more sensible car for a time. That time is now over so it’s back to a ‘proper’ sports tourer.

3 litre, 260bhp, is plenty for me and SWMBO is happy to drive it too!

Northumberland here we come….

Back home now, approx 650 miles round trip and 38mpg overall. Including lots of motorway, bimbling round quiet country roads and a decent portion of loud pedal action.
