Arwyn, that is shocking if not surprising.
I'll bet they cost a small fortune back in the day too.

I stuck a Librands on mine - not cheap but seems good quality. However, I thought the rest of their exhaust system was ridiculously expensive so made my own.

I'll bet they cost a small fortune back in the day too. It was the original factory fit on a 4/4 1600 Competition model and cut it up so I could bend up a replica in stainless. In the end I bought a Librands one. Got my local exhaust pipe shop to make me the rest of the system in lifetime guaranteed stainless for 175 quid. Arwyn

Not a clue what my manifold is ... was on the car and carries no name/mark ... however, it does look decently designed for a 'road' manifold and with the stainless box/sidepipe under the passenger running-board it does make a nice noise.🙂

A quick cautionary exhaust tale. A chum has a 1983 CVH engined 4/4. She took it to an exhaust specialist for a stainless system to be fabricated.
The, so-called, specialist made the system so that there was no clearance to a rear tyre. She managed around 10 miles before a blow out. IIRC, 4/4 of this era have a “kink” in the pipe as it passes the wheel to ensure sufficient clearance - its a long time since I have looked underneath one.

Yes, there needs to be a bend in the pipe so that it's closer to the chassis rail in order to clear the tire. I just had ours to an exhaust shop for a look to eliminate the side outlet. He's ordered the pipe and hangers and I'll post before and after pictures when it is done. A quick cautionary exhaust tale. A chum has a 1983 CVH engined 4/4. After 10 years good service and never having seen a battery charger in it's life my Yuasa YBX1038 12V 35Ah 330A decided it was time to go. Bought a like for like for £66-99 online and delivered in 2 days so fitted it today. Test run down to the tank Graham to make sure the TM wreath was intact and still there - a good pat was had between the showers a good topless run out. Been a great day Morganing around and getting mucky - perfect
