I acted as a Morgan taxi service last night to take a friend of Mrs FT the long way to a surprise party for her 65th birthday. To say she absolutely loved the experience was an understatement - side-screens off and "spirited" driving as requested. I'm taking her husband for a trip out to Krazy Horse soon so maybe the flame has been lit.

It seems that perhaps a positive effect of global warming is that I am making more use of my old Morgan this year than I have managed to do so for many a year, perhaps also fuelled by my advancing years and that it seems that those aged 70 and over may currently be a target group, in terms of cutting the numbers of us on the roads, thus as per the old saying, I seem to be making hay while the sun shines, and perhaps feeling a tad more vulnerable than the majority in this age group, in that I am not driving a Nissan Micra, but machinery with somewhat sporting performance available....?

As some in the forum will know, I have for decades now been into Porsche of the air cooled 911 variety, having restored and run three such, though the last air cooled 911 I owned was sold perhaps thirty years ago, though a few years back i returned to Porsche ownership when I bought a 991.1, unfortunately Porsche can no longer produce new air cooled 911`s.. Sigh !

Perhaps my mid 80`s +8 is a tad like the 911 it replaced in my garage, and the CX by some measure may be the Morgan equivalent of the 991 and other water cooled Porsches which natural evolutionary process in terms of emission and safety regulation combined with ever increasing comfort convenience and bling that buyers of new vehicles have increasingly required from the mid 80`s on..?

More the last few days, I met up with a group of Porsche club folk on Thu evening who had been on a drive from Stirling to Balloch to enjoy a fish & chip run... I arrived in the +8 just as the last of the Porsches was parking in the adjacent car park, on the way in a group of girls in their early teens shouted "Nice Car" and as I parked a chap on crutches with what looked like a a leg in bandages made his way Across the road to say, " Yours is the best car here," thought in truth that has been said to me a few times by random folk while out with Porsche pals over the years...

While I was taking some pics of the 20 or so Porsches, a mix of air cooled and some bang up to date GT3 RS types with carbon fibre brakes, I noticed the teens taking pics of the Mog, so invited them to sit in it and take their pics of each other at the wheel, which they did and had fun doing so..I have done similar on a few occasions with kids when accompanied by their parent (s) in a variety of countries when I spot them stopping to look at the car...Works well in terms of enhancing my feel good factor ..(-:

Enjoyed a circa 210 mile round trip into Perthshire yesterday, thus greased the Mog`s suspension today, too hot to do much more, which is unusual for my part of the woods..!

I have been simply blown away by the warm and positive response my green +4 evokes from passers-by. It seems to somehow bypass the whole class/wealth/snob/showoff concerns that some cars (regardless of the actual intentions of their owners) can give rise to and go directly to "that's so cool, what kind of car is it?". Even if men of my own somewhat advance years are the most keen, young kids just adore it and, per your experience Luddite and to my surprise, so do teens. Maybe the biggest surprise is the many positive reactions the car (not me, the car!) has elicited from the fairer sex. It's like a friendliness machine and it's given me many a pleasant chat with strangers this summer, an added ownership bonus I never expected but one which has become one of the most enjoyable aspect of operating a Morgan!

Exactly. I've often suggested that we should be paid by government to drive these cars as they spread so much tolerance and happiness on the roads.

On our first trip with our for than for us new 4/4 we met an american couple on their trip around Europe with a yellow Boxter.
They told us that they own 2 (or three?) Morgans.
