Very dangerous but this was without doubt their finest days with cars such as the 49 and the laconic Graham Hill in action here at the Ring 1969.

That was a classic shot in a classic era, and more than just luck by the photographer. The Lotus 49 was arguably the pinnacle of the pre-aero era with a front radiator. Years ago I built the Tamiya 1/12 Lotus 49 pretty much in that spec. The design looked as it the wings were always part of it. Chapman was a genius, although always fragile engineering.

Maybe a trick of the camera but looks like reverse ackermann steering in play there which has some benefits in racing.
