I have a distant memory of the CEO of Honda once saying something like, eventually there will only be one car manufacturer in the world, oh, and Morgan

If I remember correctly, it was actually the founder, Soichiro Honda, and the quote was supposed to be "In the future, there will be just half a dozen car companies – and Morgan."

For awhile, Honda were a client I worked with and at the time they were early pioneers of EV tech. They had released the Honda Insight; if memory serves it was circa £17,000 new (in 2000) and Honda were still supposedly losing around £5,000+ per vehicle. However, they had patented 300+ components that related to the EV systems and they had hoped that these would be licences by other car companies; therefore, they would benefit in the long term.

An interesting company and one that has both adapted with the times as well as making some incredible vehicles.

Thanks for the correct quote Simon thumbs

I remember testing an Insight at Millbrook quite a few years ago, I wasn't too bad on the alpine route, but the test hill section (whatever it was called) very nearly defeated it - but all credit to Honda for risking the development, I saw one a couple of weeks ago and thought it was interesting that some are still running

My local Honda dealer lent me one of the first generation (1999/2000) Insights. Very fetching in pale blue metallic and funky rear spats, futuristic instruments, but majorly hampered dragging around the huge battery. I wrote a review for our local paper and summarised it in one word, "why". I guess I hadn't foreseen the rise of EV's. There's a similar one for sale https://www.carandclassic.com/l/C1912521

Did a 90 minute test drive at Brands Hatch Morgan today. Demo has dynamic handling pack, 19” wheels and hard top.

Surprisingly refined with windows on at A road speeds; even with windows slightly open. Without the windows, too blustery.

Ride is fidgety and unsettled. Probably better on 18” wheels. Or adjust the nitrons. Chassis incredibly stiff. Love the long bonnet and pointy steering. Weighty steering if a touch dead. Corners very confidently. Front lifts on hard acceleration; a giggle. Brakes needs pushing quite hard. Initial bite poor but once going, good.

Rear view mirror terrible .. like looking at gold fish bowl, cars look distorted. As if you are wearing someone else’s glasses.

Very fast in Sport. Sleepy in standard mode. Schizophrenic in Sport +.

Build quality pretty good. Panels all align perfectly. Interior is beautiful, high quality and well put together. Doors are game changing in their solidity.

There were strange noises when going over bumps but that is what you get from low volume hand built cars. They were not mechanical noises, they were things rubbing against each other noises. Didn’t really bother me.

First time I have seen a SS in the metal. I love it.

I think they have spoilt the proportional relationships in the design of the top and boot. They've also destroyed the artistry in the shape of the wings. It's very brutal now, whereas previous models were gloriously elegant.
Just my opinion, wouldn't expect anyone else to agree.

Teenage school kids were waving at me.

It’s a cool car. A modern interpretation of a classic shape.

For me, the hard top makes the car. Slightly and deliberately out of sync, giving it tremendous character.

Agreed +2. Can live with front end but the rest is a bit Plus4Plus in my mind. And, I don't like that!
